Anyone know where to find rear brake parts for a 53 Plymouth...I think it's called a suburban..2dr wagon.?

    I've tried all local outlets.

OR, anyone have any first-hand info on a pretty straight-forward rearend swap to get a little more highway freindly gear, and easier to get brake stuff.

    It's got a flat/6..3spd

    It's got a 410 gear now.

    Thanks

My '49 dodge, which is pretty much the same ch***is, at least I think, has a '57 ford 9" in it. It bolted right up to the stock leafs with the ford pads on the rear.

Well, I know where there are three of those 57-59 9" rearends. But he wants $300 each, and I was hoping for a much cheaper fix.

I will do some measuring and research on that option though.

    Thanks, and anyone else?

A 8 1/4" from a 73 and up Plymouth Duster/ Dodge Dart will fit and should have the same 4 1/2" bolt pattern.

    An 8 3/4 from a Mopar B body from 66-70 will fit.

A 8 1/4 or a 7 1/4 from an Aspen/Valari will be only about 1 1/2" wider and the spring perches will have to be changed.

We put an 8 3/4" from a Dodge pickup in my son's 47, but we modified the rear fenders for clearance.

My 39 Plymouth has an 8 3/8 out of a Dodge Dakota in it, With 7" wide wheel, the tires are right at the wheel openings, but those wheel openings ae round.

Yes. Try Kanters. I re-did all my brakes on my '53 Suburban too and got all my stuff from them. I left the stock rearend in it. The only thing that I had done locally was a place that re-paded the brake shoes for me at a great price. $30.00 a set! Just one thing. With Kanters, make sure ya have them repeat what you are ordering from them. They sent me the wrong wheel cylinder but made up for it and sent the right one and told me to keep the other on the house! I am going to go through them to do the brakes on my '54 Chrysler coupe when I am ready!!!!!!!!! KNUX!

Better yet, if ya can, try getting a S10 roller that ya can fit the body onto. Something that I should do with my wagon. KNUX!

Swapping ch***is is out. This is just a cheap little beater car we tool around in.

I just want to do a cheap'o fix on the rear brakes, then maybe swap rearends in 6-8 weeks.

    I know where there's several 57-59 ford 9" rears.

So, if anyone else has some usable rear shoes or wheelcyl's, I'd be interested.

    Thanks

Are the brakeshoes from the front the same as the brake shoes on the rear? I have just went to a disc brake conversion on my 39 Plymouuth (looks like the same suspension and brakes as that 51 Plymouth i had apart a while back.) I have all the original front brakes laying in a plie, destened for China (s****). The wheel cylinders were leaking (but I have a bog-o-rubbers that came with the car in the big box of stuff) but the shoes were almost new and there are new hoses and the backing plates and drums and all the springs and pivoit pins. You get them, you can have them. Gene
