Wyatt, your dash dilemma is similar to the one I had. The angle of the tunnel and stock placement in the firewall are going to cause you problems like mine did using a 5W dash in 3W with a mild channel so I welded two tabs on the back of the dash and cut the face off the tunnel then bolted the face to the back of the dash eliminating the tunnel completely. It worked great....... 20160928_175712_resized.jpg

That reminds me I was going to ask you before if you wanted a used engine turned flat stainless plate I have for your dash? I know you said you liked or was proud of your scuff job. But I'm going to go with the black painted stock style in my PU which I had bought it for.

Wyatt, I can give you the measurements you need. I will shoot some pictures of the areas in question and send them to you for markup. Also be advised that the bolts that go through the cowl bands need to be tilted 5 degrees. I will send you pictures of that also.

Thanks, I knew about the band bolts. I'd appreciate any measurements that you want to take for me. Here are the two most important ones I'm looking for as a guide
    [IMG]
    And
    [IMG]
I am needing them for reference. I'm not saying that these can be exactly like a 32 3w. But I certainly don't want the a average hot rodder, even traditional, to walk up and believe or notice something is off. I am ok with it being seen on a measuring device but not the naked eye.[emoji848]

I don't buy Street Rodder often but since I'll be "sitting down" a lot today, I picked one up at the Pharmacy. Check this out, David Stoker stole my car color before I even sprayed it, dang.

The magazine to camera never translates well but trust me it's uncanny. Last night I saw this when searching 3w images.

    LAKES CHOP!
I don't know if looks like much here but I have a decent imagination. When I first set the door top on I immediately started looking for the box of chop pieces. It also looks so angled when it's not really just a tad sloppy on the squareness of the back edge of the door. But I said I want to angle chop it anyhoo. In real life I can't believe how far I have to lean over to look through the window opening! The back is is bout 7.5" of gl*** and the front before it really starts to curve down is around 6 1/4". This is at least 5.5" out of the B-pillar. So I'm way past the standard consensus on Tudor hair cuts but not never(not never?) heard of. The middle door hinge is just there to temporarily help with alignment, but good riddance.
    Here's less photo trickery

Why? It's your build thread. We're all following it for a reason. Don't cut back on the posts, it's nice to see the process, both physically and mentally.

Funny cause a Pheaton and roadster have the heaviest chops especially with no windshield. But they don't usually look near as mean as a slammed closed lid.

Ha, Ha...I like that one "multiple trinket shelfs & cubbies" may-be I should start a couple of them my self. Then I remembered I sold or gave away most of the cool stuff to fund the 3 window build.

Normally these things would fall under the @paintslinger805 anti-hoarding clause mandate subsection B paragraph C. But in my case these are almost exclusively loose individual parts purchased for my builds. I sure as hell don't have money for wall art right now. I've been selling off stuff to fund this project for over a year and the pickens have ran dry. Currently I'm in desperate need of some sales to pay George for parts to my PU I swore to.
Dennis your "trinket" shelfs are on 3 awesome cars that run, drive, and are enjoyed.

Now please don't think for a second that I'm not fighting this thing every step of the way. I've even cut things back apart multiple times then back together again, I think.

Fitting 32 cowl braces and almost ready to rivet and weld

Oh and you really start to see what being poor gets you with a re-pop grill shell. I will be tweaking mine till infinity. Lucky I have the genie commercial to gauge things off of.

Even with a nice original grill shell this fitment is one hell of a lot of work to get it right. I couldn't tell you how many days I had in doing the grill and hood on the 3 window and it is still not perfect and it was a very nice original grill to start with. I am sure you will get it...

  28. Well me and grandpa were looking at the brookville 3w and roadster body's at gnrs and he talked about how the fitment of original body's weren't all that good from the factory. He said they were always bending hinges and realigning the doors hoods and trunk lid. So don't make it to perfect Wyatt if you want it to look factory "Henry"

Yeah Bruce no plans to make it perfect. Not my kind of old feeling hot rod. This plays in perfectly with my ****-*** builder skills and hurrying to get nowhere.
    Exhibit A:
Was all proud of these rivet heads I welded into the cowl braces. Until one fell out today. Time for a redo.
    Then there's B:
Firewall foot shimming to compensate for my goofy rail. This points towards the problem I corrected with pie cutting where the pinch starts. More on this in a second.
Then there's ol' Henry and not the Louis L'Amour book.
No these two halves of the door jamb do not line up. Now, I'll be able to compensate for some of this when I'm leaning the A-pillars back but the area on the cowl edge is a little swelled out but I don't think straightening it will fix the door gap. No filler here unless lead but I'll probably leave it rough. Now this:
This short section of belt line has been a nightmare to the point of considering completely replacing it. It will not line up with the door at all. More importantly I couldn't get it to line up with the hood or the tiny bit of 32 beltline on the cowl band. On either side of the car.
I'm already very unhappy with the amount of gap between the rear tire and wheel well lip, even for a 40s build, and small tires. So I couldn't bring my self to lift the back of the body any higher. I also wanted the beltline to run perpendicular to the frame rails. Then there's having the rear door hinge gap be the same as the hood to cowl and grill shell gaps in squareness. So for exhibit whatever we're on:
I really didn't want to do this but was running out of choices. I'm not crazy about all the splices to this frame but what are you gonna do with junk?
This corrected the beltline alignment issues but it did cause the hood to loose a little rake. Hopefully the lack of aggression in stance will balance out once the ***embled car drops the front spring pack down about a inch and a half. The up hill sweep is barely noticeable in real life. And actually I believe closer to stock now. Because I didn't have the 1 1/4" of rise that was supposed to be there before. I don't no if this is mostly from when I pinched the frame and the front rails swung down inward or from how hammered the rails were at the reveal curve area before. Well it may look a touch wonky without the body and tins on but it is more square then it's ever been.
Fortunately for me this "34-32" 3w mild "channel" hides a lot of my frame, one of the reasons I can make my peace with the changes and the rough body work I did. ****s I have to do more to it now before I apply the color but I have to get this thing right. If anyone wonders why I painted the frame already it was to do with keeping rust away.
I also took the time to correct a couple issues like the crooked cowl foot and I slight kink in the cowl band while I had the tinwork all off the frame. I don't mind a flaw here or there but once they start to pile up you just wind up with a handful of turd car. Let us not forget what I started with
    [IMG]
    And
    [IMG]
Now back to fitting the cowl and doors together. It's funny, I'm more motivated by getting to setting the roof on than driving the car some day.
