unfortunately mice got to the inside of it.. the back seat was shot... it got the Mexican blanket treatment!
found some really neat items in the glovebox... it had all the original dash hangtags in there.. the mice got to most of em.. but they left the coolest piece of info fairly uneaten! Anyone know what the safety up or e4 eye options were back then?
The engine was free.... but just to be safe I yanked the original plugs and wires (never repaced) poured some good ole marvel mystery oil down the cylinders let em sit for a bit and rolled the motor over by hand to reseat the rings... it had been sitting since 76. The ole girl fired up and came back to life! I did order up original fabric outside solid core style wires for it from Packard electronics....
Great. I am envious!! e4eye is probably e z eye. That is what the window tint was called. I would think the safety up is safety gp [group] . Not sure what was included. Were the hydraulic lifters noisy at first? Ben
Nah.... honestly they weren't.... I cranked it over a few times with the coil wire unhooked and ran a quart of atf through the oil for the first 10 minutes to clean everything out... then dumped the oil and changed it and the filter ... so far so good.... the Dynaflow trans however is giving me fitz
That dealer didn't miss many licks ! Charged for a thermostat, antifreeze, gas, oil ... Don't know detail on Buick's "safety group", but it's going be backup lights, visor vanity mirror, courtesy lights, & maybe one OS mirror, maybe a trunk light. The $5.68 NG (day/nite) mirror he was sold was probably part of the package.
It looks great. So awesome to find one with the low miles and totally complete. That two tone paint option sure was cheap.
Thanks guys..... took her out with the hood back on and some g body rear springs to drop the back end down some.... but the trans is giving me fitZ.... anyone know the Dynaflow well? If it sits for any amount of time it acts like it doesn't have any gears ... if I jack up the rear and spin the tires manually with it in drive it kicks in and I can climb into the car, press the brakes, put it in park, drop the rear back onto the ground and good to go... in town and highway runs out great. It if it sets.... back to stage one (losing prime on the front pump maybe?). it does make a strange ticking noise when I put into park... (parking pawl?) don't know if the two correspond or not....
And WELCOME to the HAMB! Slick car ya got there. A real beauty. I remember those around our little town when I was a kid. Most were 4 door models. Yours' is special....................... Ya got a line on the missing trim? Keep us posted. I'll follow this one..............
Ruff- thanks!! The rocker trim down below and the grill mustache? Both in the garage.... she is due for a tear down n rebuild.. I was just too lazy to put it on just to take it back off again....
Looks like a good solid find. I had my fill of thoses dynflows trans. I hope you don't have to pull it out.. Bruce.
All in all not bad for 20+years in a barn.... if the mice hadn't gotten to the interior it'd been more clean..... but still pretty decent
Still has the original stamping on the firewall... as I understand these were put there as it went through the ***embly line....
Unfortunately it's gonna come out... I've had the rear end/driveline out twice already ... I'm gonna yank the motor and trans all at once i think and give the motor some new gaskets and paint.. ordered up all the factory correct paint and decal stuff from bobs.. got a oe copper multi layer shim head gasket for it and rebuild the trans too... should be like new when it all goes back in!
How I spent my super bowl Sunday... one fender and inner fenderwell off..not a single broken bolt...next the driver side and then motor and trans removal... gonna give the straight 8 a quick once over and rebuild the trans... I have a guy who used to rebuild transmissions who I work with that said he would lend a hand.. then "alterations for adjustable suspension" time
Traditional cure for a bum transmission is an oil and filter change. Not going into gear is a typical fault of low pressure caused by clogged filter. Usually improves as car warms up and trans fluid thins out. What the heck, a filter and some trans fluid is cheaper than a new trans. Don't be alarmed if it doesn't shift. They aren't supposed to. They start off in High and stay there unless you manually shift to Low. Also, slow and sluggish is how they are supposed to work.
Unfortunately I've tried all that... cleaned flushed etc.. I even drained and refilled the converter last summer twice .... no luck
Looks like a good start to a great project. Subsribed Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
