Hot Rods New to This: What Do You Guys Think?

Make sure the papers are in order.

 

The engineering on a t bucket can range from top notch down to hay wagon quality. Many are built with no knowledge of steering geometry, suspension travel or spring rates.

A well engineered one could be a lot of fun in that price range, and cosmetic changes are easily made. But a poorly engineered one isn't worth more than a package of un***embled parts.

If you want to buy one, you need someone who knows what they're looking at to check it out. Many look pretty but are junk, others are ugly/cheesy looking but a good foundation for a makeover.

 

Not sure exactly what a flipper is, but yes...i guess lucky for me? Like i said, i wasn't worried about anyone stealing the deals out from under me or I would have taken the time to just put up the pictures and copy and paste the descriptions.

I live near Harrisonburg, VA. It's absolutely gorgeous around this whole area.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Also, as much as I would love to custom build a car to my specific needs/wants, I just don't have the time. I generally go to school two days a week and work every day I'm not at school. The only time I would ever have to work on it would be the days after work ***uming I have no homework which is rarely the case. I built the 4runner into what it currently is last year and although it's definitely cool seeing the finished product, I can honestly say that it doesn't really make it worth any more to me. It has more sentimental value than any other car I've owned but I could still bring myself to part with it if I had to. I would still prefer not to if I could manage to find a nice cl***ic/antique/custom for under about 10-11k. I think with some searching I probably could. I'm open to lots of different makes and models and in the past have stumbled upon great deals that I just didn't have the money to buy. There's always deals to be had if people know where to look. If I do manage to find one that looks clean and well put together I'll be back to have you guys ****yze it or possibly even look it over with me if anyone is open to it. Thanks so much guys! I can already tell this is a very helpful and tight knit community.

 

If you know what to look for, you can probably buy a nice T bucket for not too much money. Or you can have the Rolling Bones build you a nice 32. Or you can do something inbetween. If you live in Alaska you might be happier with a coupe......In California, maybe a roadster.
Probably should hang around long enough, and you won't have to ask.

 

I saw a pretty nice T bucket sell for $8500 a few months ago . It only had about 5000 miles since it was built. Basic bucket, but well built. The guys wife had back problems and couldn't ride in it so he bought a shoe box Ford sedan with A/C which made her happy and since she was happy he was too because he gets to cruise more.

 

Great advice but in the long run buy what you like. Research is your friend and you will soon be answering your own questions. I would at least go test drive that 500 plus HP one just to see if he's stretching the truth a little. If you don't buy it give him some cash for the experience. 500 HP in a 1,500 lb car would be a hoot.
