Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by johndanger, Mar 4, 2006.

  1. I think the biggest thanks must go to you John, for proposing this in the 1st place, glad we could come along, if only for a short while to take a few pictures & supply coffee & doughnuts....

Tell Dusty to keep the faith, glad it ran ok.

    Thanks Dave ,

I really think this was a success , He is now in a good place to become a car guy and learn how to do his own work . He owns a safe , solid car that is a good starting point for some easy work that will yeild quick rewards , when he got this thing he was in way over his head , I am interested to see how he does from here on out .

  3. EXCELLENT!!!! John your a top drawer guy, glad the motor & ****** were good, I look forward to seeing Dusty and the car cruising around. Hell the whole thing was worth it just for the pics of George shoehorned into that rod!......

I am so glad that I was able to partake in this project, although I wasn't able to contribute much more than doughnuts, coffee and my own personal faith that it would run!

It was great to meet Dusty and all the folks I'd never met before, and to see those I'd met before. Y'all are a top notch group of people.

It was also so nice to see and hear Dusty so excited about his car...he was so high on life that it was contagious! Renews my faith in people...it really does.

Please p*** our contact information along to Dusty (and anyone else who may want it) we'd like to stay in touch.. and hey ya'll.. we don't need a brokedown car as an excuse to get together!!

Thanks, I was pretty surprised to see that shirt out there. That is my home bar that I have been going to for years.

It's so great to see a group like you guys helping a kid out with his ride, hopefully vegas grows to more of a scene like this, so many of the kids here join car clubs {coat clubs} just to play little gang games not realizing the comraderie and enjoyment of getting together on a project to help a kid out!!!! Kudos to all you guys!!!!!

Thats funny, I got home today and thought, "I wonder what ever happened to that thread?" I get here and bam, its on the first page. Really wish I could have made it, but I had some medical stuff instead.

If Im ever down in santa cruz I expect to see Dusty driving this piece around. I like the color on the motor, a good change of pace.

The car is still here at the shop , he is waiting to get the gas tank boiled out, and the other starter put in , also got a bit hot in traffic , perhaps the radiator needs a flush , all this is stuff that he can handle himself , and he has been saving up for it .

he's doing well , has been saving his $ , doing a few things here and there and has had the rad. repaired , and a new gen. is on the way , we will be doing some rewire stuff soon and there has been talk of some mild custom touches in the future , but he is learning alot and doing as much as he can on his own .

he comes out to our car shows and is staying out of trouble.
I will see about some progress pics soon.

Glad he's staying clean John. Tell him an old Ohio guy was askin' about him. Got a grandson in a similar situation. Thanks for all you did for him.

Yeah at least he's spending all his $ on car parts , like the rest of us , the idea is that the addiction doesn't go away , it just changes into something less destructive.

    Johndanger,

Can we get an update on how this lad is doing?

I hope he didn't drop out, and is still working on his car.

I just read through damned near this entire thread...I had forgotten all about this until I read halfway through the first page...it's a damned good thing we folks do for others, and I can't wait to see some updated pics of the car and the proud owner...

Man, I got a early chev powerglide. Have no idea if it would work in the Poncho. If it would it's his. We could relay. Out of 20,000 members, someone has to have a takeout, when they rodded their Poncho. Let's knock off the negative comments ********, and worry about helping someone who really can use the help, instead of the old yuppie " What's in it for me?" ****. Ain't that what this organization is about? Common interest bringing us all together? You f#@king yuppies go eat your lowfat tofu and wash it down with designer bottled water. As for the rest of us, if we can find a ****** for this young man, and he can see that all adults aren't ***holes, put me down for 20 bucks toward the freight. Yuppies make my geezer *** sick....Ole Pork

Man, my computer does strange things...Just read the whole thread. Yeah, this is what it's about. Maybe this kid will make it, because men who could have been somewhere else doing something for themselves cared to help a kid. Damn near brings tears to these old eyes who thought they were so tough. As for the negative yuppies, you know my opinion of your reaction. Give us an update on this young man, and don't forget to tell him he's doing OK. If I can help him in ANY way let me know......Ole Pork

Yeah, I remember reading someplace once" No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a boy." Don't remember who wrote it, don't care. But it damn sure was written about johndanger and everyone else who helped this boy on the road to becoming a man. Ya got a whole lot to feel good about.....Ole Pork

this is why i like the hamb. people with common interests helping each other out. i have a guy at my work who just got back from jail. he has a 79 b200 van that he is fixing up. he has no real mechanical knowlege but is eager to learn. i hope i can help him be come a clean member of society and become an old car lover to boot. how is the kid doing these days?? after a few years of heavy drinking and drugs myself, i pulled my self out of it when i bought the first car i ever really loved, a 1965 coronet 2dr with big block. it is a long road to recovery and i have decided to quit drinking all together and really get the money together for my projects. thanks for the inspiration. kudos to john and the gang on this project.

I was a pretty bad druggy and drunk.... I was glad when i finally brought myself out of it. I think it would have been much easier with the support like you are giving this kid. I hope someday i can help someone out like you are!
