Denver's Jere Wilson, blown Olds fueler. When he went to a blown Chrysler, this engine went into his street '36 Ford coupe, with a remote primer pump to start it. He was also a "no lift" driver, I remember him running into the lights full-out with stuff flying off and under the engine...

Tom Toler came out of this without a scratch....engine (or what was left of it) wound up sitting on the drag strip.

The caption of this photo is a bit misleading. The driver shown here is Ron Mandella, not Skip Hess. Ron had stepped away from his successful debut in an A/SA Plymouth station wagon to spend a couple of years touring in Jim Shores' very competitive Anglia, circa 1967-68.

Southend of Hartford boys knew them both

  26. Norm on a "less exciting" pass. Love the caption " the tremendous wheel spin makes the rear tires catch fire and smoke". What, did they send a fashion writer out to cover the races??

I seem to remember seeing pictures of a car out of Texas that would actually set the tires on fire. Murray brothers and Oxman? Or am I having one of my normal hallucinations?

Edit : Maybe Carroll brothers and Oxman instead?

Dean, I always get a laugh when the "stick and ball" commentators cover racing events.

Another shot of Pete Wouters Willys. This one taken at St. Thomas Dragway.

Hotdoggin any idea what year the newspaper clipping if from for the Grand Bend Races?

Very Cool. The only date, that was in the bunch that I found, was Sept. 4 1965.
