If you were following the Dealers: fear and loathsome thread, I made reference to this car. 1959 Ford Custom 300 Tudor Sedan. Colorado Highway Patrol Captain's car. Factory 300HP, 352. Highest horsepower you could get from Ford in 1959. You can tell it was a police car by observing the factory installed spot light, the second foot switch for the siren and the screws in the dash that secured the clip for the mic. There are even heat shields beneath the floor above the mufflers. I sold the car to a man from Georgia. When he bought it, he asked me to coordinate some improvements to the car. Some of the work was done by myself and I utilized local service providers to do the rest. We installed all new brakes, including a dual chamber master cylinder. New bias ply tires were installed. The front end was completely rebuilt and aligned. Air shocks were installed at the rear. New and correct to the car dual exhaust was installed. We changed all fluids, rebuilt the carburetor, installed all new ignition components, put in a new battery and installed seat belts. We did quite a bit of cosmetic improvement, mostly in the engine bay and beneath the car. I am very happy with the results and so is Kevin. He calls the car "Sleepy". His intent is to show it as a moon-shine runner's car. He will participate in the Dawsonville, GA festival. But just in case he wishes to morph it back to the squad car look, the siren and red light are waiting for him in the trunk. In the end, his TOTAL investment in Sleepy is right at $20,000. He is ecstatic and satisfied. Check it out:
You know I love it ! When I was a kid the guy across the street had a brand new one . It was light blue . He got drunk one night and rolled it ! Sadly , it was destroyed .
Great job on the transformation, Bob. Love the "plain Jane" look of the car. Adds to the "sleepy/ sleeper" ambiance of the car. Will fit right in at the Moonshine Festival for sure.
"Leave your blood at the Red Cross, not on the highway. This is Broderick Crawford saying see you next week". You old farts out there will know where this came from.
Nice car. I wonder if the Captain got the "luxury" of an automatic trans or if all the Arizona Highway Patrol cars in 1959 were automatics?
Way cool. Just what a transporter may have called for circa 1960. Of course the boys out back may have found room for a Paxton under the hood. You did it up nice Bob. I can see why the man in Georgia is all giddy.
thanks low budget, for posting the photo of the AZ patrol car. and thanks to all for your compliments and kind words
Hi I'm Kevin from Georgia, the proud owner of "Lil Sleepy" the 1959 Ford Tudor. I just want to say the experience of working with Bob was first cl***. He went out of his way to ***ist and advise me with the purchase and modifications to the car. He over delivered. A fine gentleman.
Also bought from Bob- great guy and very easy to deal with- loved this 59 as same as one we had but ours a std Custom 300- I spent hours washing and polishing that one-
