what is this style? i have always been interested in the 60 and 61 chevys but never seen one like this.

damn yall are fast, didn't think of a flower wagon. the side gl***es throws me off.

 

Concept? I was just looking at 1960 he**** and they have a different back end and roof.

 

European coach built conversion I'd say. Looks like it started as a 4 dr HT .

Wow, that's different, based on a 4 door hardtop and using the 4 door hardtop rear window yet, it looks like to me. Must be a custom coachbuilt type job, I can't imagine the factory would build a wagon where the tailgate can't possibly open, even as a concept. That also eliminates he**** and ambulance duty. But wherever it was done, it was done with very good craftsmanship, it looks like to me. Flower car seems most likely.

 

Can anyone ID the country of that license plate? Unique split bumper in the rear too.

 

Gas cap on the right, most likely a right-hand driving country. Can't see through the window to tell. Cool longroof though.

 

I'm curious how the back opens up....that would be a long stretch if things scooted towards the back. Maybe the rear window swings off to the side, and then it can open upwards???....it won't open upwards with that window under the rear valance I don't believe....interesting.

Maybe the tailgate opens and leaves the gl*** where it is?

 

Looking again closely, it looks like there might be a seam in the roof right at the point where the rear window touches the roof. Could that whole huge window swing up at that point, with about 2 feet of roof going with it? That'd be some damn good engineering to make hinges beefy enough and get the roof strong enough to hold that load, not to mention springs to hold it up. Would look awesome when it's opened up though.

Yep, that's how it works.

 

Looks to me a 4 dr hardtop with the back gl*** moved back and a wagon roof section scabbed in to fill the gap, never a wagon originally. Hard to tell but my guess there is no tailgate. Kinda cool however.

I'm still trying to figure out what the contraption is in the foreground on the left side of the pic with the weird spears sticking out at odd angles.

That would explain the stepped up roof as compared to this.

 

Its obvious now that it is the prop for the hatch.

The notch in the bumper might be for the coffin cart to slide up closer to the car.

 

It was fairly common in other parts of the world to use large American cars for he****s and ambulances , small local coach builders were often used , I've seen pics of some weird looking contraptions !

I am not sure for Portugal (Mediterranean countries), but here in northern Europe we do not have flower cars at all, he****s only for carrying the casket. Thus I'd bet it's a casket car.
Amazing built - I suppose they've used 4D HT body & gl***es, just added lenght of the roof and side windows.
Looks professional & functional. Would like to know the coach builder who did it.

 

It's only a six cylinder but I guess you're in no hurry when you're in a funeral procession.
