    Years ago at a dinner I heard Rutherford talking about this wreck. He apparently slid on his roof for a long distance. He said it was only afterwards that he realized he had been standing on the brake as hard as he could the entire time trying to get the car to stop.

    BTW, I believe Daytona gets underway this coming weekend with the latest version of their "Clash" on Saturday night.

    Work well even in dry dirt, sand, gravel..I run them on my tractor all year round..

    Birkenfeld's a pretty remote place even today. Probably some pretty crappy roads to traverse in those days.

    At 84, I remember wearing "cords with gaucho" knit shirts at hi school 1946-1950.
    Then came the Levi's & T shirts with leather highly polished "Cordoven" color shoes.
    Girls skirts were 4 inches above the ankles!

    6 miles south of Grants Pass, Oregon on Hwy. 99....along the Rogue River. My grandparents literally lived within view of this motel.....free tv, $3.50 a night, horseback riding, river views, and hwy. entrance...couldn't beat it!:).....ah, those were the days! 003.jpg
