Cool story is that she was built a few blocks outside the Oakland city border, she then spent her entire life registered in Oakland which is where I pulled her out of. This will be the new project in addition to the 31 ford. Some of the metal work will test my skill... But the best part is that it's all there...
I saw that as soon as I posted. It's never done that before. Looks like they are working now, can you see em?
It's a 1956 Buick Special. I had wanted one forever. A buddy gave me a hard time for p***ing up on a 56 "super" for the lower trim level "special" until I pointed out how the special has completely different body lines.
Sorry left that part out, the plan is to: See how the original 322 nailhead is and rebuild it. Convert the closed rear end to an open Replace front floor pan, rockers and all other metal repair Have the interior reupholstered white and green to match new paint on the outside that will be original Dover White middle, and Green top and bottom Something along these lines...
Lovin it. You can't go wrong with a Buick! I like the Special and Century series the best too. Keep us posted!!
If it's a special, it'll have a 264 motor...All other series have the 322. But the Hollander has an interesting side note...says a 53-56 Buick special 100 will have a 322. Hmmmmmmmm I've never heard of a special 100 but that's what the book says...
Thank you very much you guys! Dove into it a little more today, the interior appears original. I'm glad the pattern is still there for when I take the upholstery in. Only the **** section of the front seat had been recovered but the recovered it over the old upholstery. The body is straight and all the trim looks good. Chrome will cost a small fortune to have redone, don't know if I'll have chrome work done in Utah or here in California. (I sadly remember not too long ago when I could drive a few minutes from my house and have great chrome work done at a reasonable price.)
In 1956 the Special got the 322 before that it had the smaller nailhead. (Not meaning the 322 is a BIG nailhead!)
I really like the 55. It's actually my favorite interior compared to the 56. I just have always loved the 56's dagmars and tail lights.
The owner had lost the keys, so he had not opened the trunk. He had no idea what was in there and didn't care. After getting it off the trailer I took out the back seat and crawled in... hoping for hot rod gold! (Or at least the keys) Just found what looks to be the top end of a ford engine.
Yup....went back and looked and Roger Hollander says 53-56 special had 264 but my old Motors Manual says all 56 buicks had 322 motor...sorry
Congratulations on the find. This is my dream car. I will be watching for sure. Sounds like you have a good plan for it. Good luck
Ain't nothing to be sorry for bud! People have talking about what motors were in which car since Ransom Olds!
