I have beed watching this thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102140 I have painted my bike useing the flatining agent in the clear and I didnt have very good luck with it at all the clear all turned white. After talking to the guys at the paint supply place they made it sound like this happens from time to time. I did the frame and it looked great but when I did the tanks and fenders they turned out like ****. I did every thing the same followed the the directions and used the same ratio and got two totaly differnt resolts. Im not a pro painter but do know a little. It seems to me there must be a better way to get the look its not cheap to do the base clear and the flatining, not too mention the fact that it could all go wrong on you like it did me the last time. Has anyone used the Kustom Flatz paint.http://www.kustomshop.com/scripts/depot.exe?pgm=ksflatz.bbx Its flat It has uv protection It has hardener Its cheap
i got some but havent used it yet. and if ya all want to know its made by omni which is made by ppg. thy put their sticker over the omni logo on the label and it doesnt even cover the whole logo
We did this Model A with Kustom Flatz. Came out real nice but could have been a little flatter. The GMC in the back ground I had "professionally" done and I like the Kustom Flatz we did better.
We have been using Spies Hecker Brand primer, they make any color you want it it called Spectro Surfacer, it is activated with a catylist so it does not absorb moisture or fade. Look at Nick32vic's, 32 Vicky hiboy. Nick
I've used about 3 gallons of it. The flattener sits on the bottom and you have to put it in the paint shaker and use it right away. The first gallon I used I stirred by hand, took me about an hour, what a ***** that was. I agree with 52gmc that it could have been a little flatter. But they sell extra flattener seperate. I think its great stuff, for 80 bucks a gallon.
That blue truck in the other thread is Clark's from So-What. I did a lot of searches about the paint when I first saw that truck. He used PPG omni base with PPG Flexed-n-Flattened clear. But that's all I know. As far as metallics or pearls or what the actual base color is he used, I'd love to find out!
From what I understand it is a PPG based product....VERY easy to use, and finish is nice from the few cars I have seen painted with it. I will be painting my 55 pickup with it soon.
