Hello everyone, I'm a first time poster long time lurker. I have a 1951 DeSoto Custom that I am rebuilding as it was treated like crap from the previous owners. This car has been a challenge to find just about anything and to make matters worse it was in an accident in the 1980's so all of the front end is being replaced. The only thing I'm still searching for to fix the accident damage is the front splash pan. It's been great so far even though it's a weird car to deal with. Overall I'm hoping to find an experienced Chrysler/Plymouth/dodge/desoto guy to bounce questions off of. Thanks again guys for the knowledge I've gained so far! -Justin Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
the only thing I see is you make same mistake most newbys do,,,,Page title says "INTRODUCE YOURSELF" not your car,,
Alright I'll start over. I am from the Philadelphia suburbs and have had a lifelong passion for cars. Everything I've learned has been self taught or from more experienced guys. I am an Army Veteran and served for 5 years, with one tour to Iraq. I'm currently attending Temple University for Risk Management and Insurance. I'm easy going and relatively mechanically inclined. Welcome, there are a lot of car guys in Philly area and Jersey too. You should have no problem getting help.
I'm a newbie to H.A.M.B. I look forward to a great experience talking and looking at brethren hot rod cars, projects and what have you. I'm a Pontiac lover and since I was born in Pontiac, Michigan it is no big mystery to me why. Cut my teeth on a 57 Chieftain hardtop owned by my oldest brother. Man it was quick for a stock 347 2 barrel automatic! Saw the 61 Ventura bubble top when I was 14. It was instant love. I swore when I got "big" I would have this car. Coronado red, 4 speed. It was about 50 years later that I found my holy grail. I have been working on it now for 15 years. Last year I took the plunge and started a body off frame restoration. Now it's painted and starting to hang parts and pieces in and on it. When I bought the car it had a 1963 Superduty short block with 62 tripower /heads . I had been looking for a Mickey Thompson 421 for 14 years. I finally found one last year to my great joy! It was in almost new condition with no piston ridge whatsoever! All part numbers checked out as original. I was overjoyed. Now it's been completely restored to its original glory and ready to install. Oh by the way, the seller had the original Borg Warner Super T 10 drive train complete with the spaghetti stick shifter! So SCORE! I can hardly wait until it's done but I'm taking my time and doing all I can to retain everything as original as possible. Thanks H.A.M.B. for this opportunity to share my story. I welcome any and all comments from the community. I really don't have a good idea of it's worth so if you think you have a handle on that, let me know. Not many comps out there for this unique combination. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
