I NEED, if any one can spare it, video footage of the burnout festivities fri. night @ the roundup. As some of you know, I have become a victim of the police & their har***ment & I need help.

If anyone out there captured any of the footage of the smokey burnouts, drag style launches and squirelly sideways getting action next to and with the cop cars in the frames it would help me tremendously. My job dictates that I cannot afford to have my driving record ****ed over by bogus, unwarranted "reckless driving" charges being handed out unjustly by lunatic cops. I regret I have for the first time in my life had to hire the services of an attorney to stand up for my innocence (I did not even participate in any of the burnout action!). I also regret I have to air my dirty laundry in this fantastic forum because nobody wants to be "that guy", but I really need your help. If anybody has or knows of any photos or video footage, including footage of me, please PM me, I'll be more than happy to pay for any shipping, copying of tapes, etc.

Thank you again to the Kontinentals for everything they do and especially thank you to my friends and family who stepped up for me. Thank you El Jefe & Hot Wheel, and especially the Thunderbolts. You guys really stepped up to the plate and diffused a ****py situation.

    David,
I talked to Stan Knee(APD Chief) today about some of the actions of his officers. Mainly about Sat nite, but I also briefly mentioned your situation in the conversation. We seemed to have a good conversation of what was going on and what this event will mean to the City, if delt with correctly. He seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say (especially, since I came across as a long time local business owner, not a hot head).
Probably wouldn't hurt to call his office liason person and ask for him to return your call personally and you could tell your side of the story to the main guy. If we work this right, we can have some safe fun.

    DW,
I have been in your exact shoes in the past @ the Woodward dream-cruise up here in Michigan. Some jerk did a huge smoky burn out next to my tubbed out Camaro.
And it was the Video/Photos that saved my ***.
The only trick is that you have to make sure that who ever took the picture has to either be @ court with you or sign an affidavid to state that they took the pics on a certain day/time. Otherwise they will throw it out by saying that its hear-say evidence.

You can have anyone say that they took the pics not just the "real" person who did.

Without my proof / pics I was looking @ getting tickets/fines for reckless driving/ endangerment/Dragracing...

    I beat those lying Cops....****ers.

I think Skotz has the best info here. I recently went to court over a ''exihibition of speed'' ticket which I got in October last year! When I was in court they asked me how I wanted to plea, I said ''not guilty'' The court secretary came over to set a date for the next court and while talking to her she asked the ***t. D.A. to come over. After explaning to him that this was my 3rd time at court, 1st time the cop ''didn`t show'' He asked me what happened? I explained that I was goofin off and smoked my tires in the street and that there was no traffic and no one around to injure. He then to my suprise threw it out of court! I had at all time kept my composure and talked to him like a regular person without getting pissed off. FWIW I would call the man and explain to him about what was going on and the cur***stances that where occuring there! You catch more flies with honey!

Words of truth. I have spoken w/ Skotz and we agree that there is a time & place for this kind of fun & perhaps w/ the cooperation of everyone, people can continue to enjoy stuff like this responsibly & safely. Thanks for the words of wisdom & I will continue to try & get this ironed out w/ a calm head. Unfortunately, It may cost me lots of $$$ so again, if anyone has any footage, it may help me out. I just wanted to add my "nice to meet you" thoughts on your thread. You and your wife are two of the friendliest, nicest, kindest, down to earth people I have ever meet. Your wife made me feel right at home as soon as I got there on Thursday. I felt like I had known her for years.

I'm truely looking forward to the next time our paths cross and would like to extend an invitation to come up to Detroit at any time and enjoy some northern hospitality.

All weekend long both of you always had smiles on your faces even with the damper of this situation. I have no burnout photos to help with your cause BUT I would like to suggest getting ahold of Rad**** who spent the weekend with a gal who had both a still and a video camera. Seems she was always filming something. I would imagine she would be willing to help. Also, perhaps Evel has footage as well.

Good luck and please keep us up to date on the progress and let the HAMB know if there is anything else we can do to help.

maybe you can benefit from my *ahem* experience. If you can't find evidence to the contrary to defend yourself, plead "no lo contendre" and request "differed adjudiction" from the judge. If you keep your nose clean for the required period (6mos-1yr depending on the alleged offense) it never goes on your record.

Man it ****s what happened to you. Me and the pops was leaving Trophys and was crusing down Congress and seen the Coupe loading on the wrecker. Did not realize what happened till Reggie told us the next day.

One of the hightlights of the weekend was when you pulled up to the COntinental CLub on Friday night. That was weet. Cool to see it in person and hear it run. Looks like you did a very fine job on your first hot rod.

Keep your head up and stay positive. Good things come to good poeple.

I was there for the whole thing. My suggestion is to find out who the film crew was that got the 'last burnout'-the full point donut that joker did in front of Zen. Why THAT guy didn't end up in jail and you did is completely beyond all reason.
Film crews make everyone go crazy; I heard plenty of them telling people to 'burnout', etc.
Good luck with this and if you need a witness, pm me.

Who was the complete joker with the camera crew following him around all weekend? Maybe that fella is good for something?

It's just plain wrong that they loaded you and your car up - When on Saturday night a guy in a late model Mustang GT did a burnout and only got a ticket.

  20. That would be Gasmonkey with the film crew.

Try talking with Stan Knee first. I'm not sure that bringing a bunch of burnout video to court is the best thing for the Roundup.

I'm not saying to not defend yourself. I'm just trying to keep the city on our side.

I've got video's of damn near every good burnout... but I agree. I dont know if thats the best idea... I'm all for helping out, but it seems like, if the cops stop being as cool as they have been, the stuff down on congress will never be the same.

As soon as I get home, I'll upload them, or something.

Let me try to help, although I may not be much help...........I was walking around most of the night (Fri Night ) carrying a video camera helping out a friend, Anna Marcos, capture some footage of the best weekend in my life I might add.....I caught most of the early burnouts but about close to midnight or earlier, I lost track of time, we were sitting down eating pizza at that Pizza joint up on top of the hill and someone stole our camera as we were sitting there. The camera was down under my chair and when we stood up to leave we noticed the camera was gone.

I doubt it had anything on that would be of any help.....but we don't have it anyway.........man, I had great footage on that thing, interviews with some great folks and some great shots of the people, their kids, and *****in cars. I'm sick over the whole deal.....I was responsible for that camera.....

One of Jason's employee's, Ken at Flyrite Choppers let us borrow his video camera for the rest of the weekend. I cant remember meeting so many great folks in one weekend........

i missed it this year, but i'm sure it was much like last year, a huge street party with burnouts. cops are there, hell, half of freakin Austin is there. it ain't no secret as to what's going on. last year it was El Jefe hisself that called in the po-po to cool things down. you said it yourself, the cops were cool up to a point, but they busted the wrong person. you'd rather let an innocent person pay the price than have to tone things down a bit?:(

Yeah, but like I said when we were standing watching that Brewton the cops were being pretty cool over all at that point considering the fact that one guy walked up on them like it was his business and people were calling them pigs and such.

Nothing good comes from **** like that.

The guy with the Mustang expected to go to jail and was very "yes sir, no sir, I understand sir" so I imagine that played into it also.

I would hate to pay that ticket.

The biggest burn out running from the cops happend way south on Congress when Brewton and our buddies were hanging out and that guy had the fleet of cops on him.

" yes sir no sir " does NOT play into it at all. Period. If you had been there you would know that no amount of cooperation or respect for the cops authority could have diffused these psycho cops. You see, they were out of line. They did not care for my coolheaded courtesy. I never addressed any of them w/o the use of the ***le sir. I challenge you to find an individual more thoughtful and courteous than myself. You wont. If I sound defensive, I am. Go figure:cool:

I never posted anything saying you deserved the ticket or anything negative about you.

I was just mentioning that the cops I saw were pretty cool about everything at that time considering the one guy that walked up on them they had to tell to back off and the fact that people were yelling **** at them.

People jacking with the cops will not do the Round Up any good over all...that was my point. My buddy and I were standing right where the guy backed in with the Mustang and listend and watched the whole deal as it went down.

As for your challenge on how thoughtful you are if that is so true why are you jumping my **** for no good reason?

Sorry buddy just a little tense about the whole affair. I suppose I (wrongly) read too much into what you said about mouthing off to cops. That is not my style. I just need a resolution to this but it will take time & that is very frustrating for me & my family. Again it kills me too show my *** like this in this place & I would never dream of making h***les for others @ future Roundups. That said, please accept my apology for jumping on your case. Let us please allow this thread too die now & if anyone out there can help me, please PM me. Thanks one last time. David

Don't worry about it, no real foul.

I hope things turn out in your favor.

I imagine when you go to court you can probably get a deffered adjudiction and get it dropped off your record (provided that will work for you since you mentioned a job issue).

I would like to know if the guy that had three squad cars on his rear around midnight up in front of where the Gasmonkey guys were set up got his rear hauled in. He went flying down Congress.

For what it is worth, your ride was kool and people were cheering when you rolled into the show on Saturday.

Good luck with all the h***le stuff.
