Hi all just thought I would post a pic of my new ride a bit of bodywork to do, its been in the UK for 20 years but despite our climate it has survived quite well , the inside is really clean I am still trying to track down the missing trim that was removed before I bought it Its got the 223 engine, was running real ruff when I got it but after a bit of tinkering with the carb and igition its running smooth now - nothing exiting but I just want it for a cruiser Thanks Dave
You should put '59 Edsel in the ***le to get more views because (almost) everyone here is an Edsel fan. My '60 Edsel has the 223 also as did the '59 Ranger I had back in the early '90s. Is it an auto or 3 on the tree? There are two big Edsel clubs on this side of the pond which both have monthly newsletters to help you find parts for it. PM me for more info on them if you want. Your car was built right here in Louisville, Kentucky. Got any more pics of it? Good luck with it....
Everyone digs an Edsel. The trim is not that tough to come by in the US. Try looking on eBay, also Owen's Salvage in Texas may have some. He's also a HAMBer and helped with my '59 Ford.
Thanks for the replies, if this one was over on your side it would have been parted out so unless you have deep pockets over here you have to settle on whats in your budget I have always wanted a 50s American car since i was a kid the nearest thing to one was a Vauxhall Cresta PA ( GM so US influenced ) i owned that for about 25 years, my other rides are the Blue PB Cresta and a Bedford dunp truck again GM so looks like a 50s Chevy truck I was so lucky with the Edsel the right place at the right time and the right money it looks rough but its had all the main welding and repair panels done , just a bit in the trunk left to do + a bit of rot around the bottom of the rear window which i will do soon Got a new rear window seal on its way so want to get the repairs done soon to keep the water out which we get a lot of here, not bothered about the paint at the moment i will just cover each repair with satin black untill i am in a position to do a proper paint job Everyhing is as on the tag all original seats and headliner are good the original colour was all white Just want to get it driving right so can do some events this year, dont know if it will pull my trailer (caravan ) though as its a dual axle and weighs around 1600 kgs laden , not sure about the 2 speed auto, especially on hills,( long long trailer springs to mind LOL ) Hope all the chrome trim turns up other wise i will have a big shopping list Stateside maybe Mr Trump could bring it over on his planned visit LOL Will post up some more photos and keep you posted on the progress Thanks Dave
(Floyd the barber at 1:15) Hopefully your trailer isn't quite that long or weigh anywhere near that much. It sounds like you've got a pretty solid car. Do you have a garage to park it in? Keep the pics and info coming.....
Congrats, I also think your avatar car is neat, It looks like a cross between an American early 60s chevy II nova and a plymouth valiant.
Who had the rear gl*** seal? I've been looking although I'm not ready to pop the gl*** out on my Ford. The Edsel and Ford used the same seals that year.
Sorry trigger finger there Raimani , yes this does make a statement especially in this neck of the woods mainly country roads dont realise how BIG it is untill you get behind the wheel Not got a garage to do the work in so hope and pray that the rain holds off got an extra 1/2 hour daylight on evenings and we are just coming out of winter but not into double figures yet
Hi Doc Satan if the trim doesnt turn up i need all side stripe both sides / rear window upper roof strip /rain channel cover trim both sides / hood emblem and EDSEL letters both sides, all this must have been taken off at the body shop who did the work Hi Bob I got the rear window seal from MACS autoparts - antique Ford parts stockist they are in NY State so on your doorstep , wish they were on mine, they had them on special offer on there ebay shop i had it on my watch list to buy later but when they listed it as last one i bought it although they list them on their site but at an higher price there is another company that also stocks them for around $125 but cant remember their name Well it was dry today so managed to make and fit the missing shims from upper wishbone fulcrum shaft it was all loose and clunking set it the same as other side as that has not been disturbed, it all looks ok now and wheel not leaning in at the top Also sorted the exhaust ,it was leaking so bad + with the carb running so rich that both me and my son had banging headaches and felt sick when we brought the car home and that was only 15 miles from where i live I cant wait to get it out and driving, i am also hoping to get the old travel trailer done that i had given going to paint it to match the Edsel - Cream roof and stripe and the rest black
That's a head turner for sure Dave, in the U.K., the U.S. or anywhere else for that matter. Very cool Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks, cant wait to get it out and drive, Bob the other company that has the rear seals in stock is Vintage Ford parts on ebay they are $99.00
