After reading and seeing everyones cars on here for many years now I finally have a hamb friendly car I can share. Its a 1937 Chevy Coupe vintage dirt track car that was built in the 50's. The owner who built this car is no longer with us and so is the history of this car. I cant find anything on it at all and the guy I bought it off of doesnt know anything about it either. All we know its from Pennsylvania. Its a 1937 Chevy Coupe body with a 1955 chevy truck frame. 1955 Chevy 265 V8 runs with a 3 speed saginaw transmission. Runs and Drives currently being put together to race with vintage race circuits.
...cool project,..I know your's is a real dirt car, but.here's a sketch I did years back...and a 38 and a 39 "dirt inspired" chevs...built for the street. Good luck with your Chev.
Congrats - sounds like a step back in time that you will use to bring plenty of smiles in today's world
I grew up as a kid watching these old cars race on dirt tracks, that's where I got infatuated with old cars ..here's a stock car "board" I did 35 years ago with all 37 & 8 Chevs...
The '53 and '54 Chevys were popular frames that got used on the old stock cars. Use whatever comes up.. cheap or free. The good old days. Have fun with it.
Totally cool! Have always loved old oval track cars! In 1977, my ex brother-in-law and I did up a '32 Chrysler coupe that originally ran the dirt in Kamloops, B.C. It also had a truck frame and a T120 Chrysler flat six (see 1st pic). With this car and another one owned by a fellow racing buddy of ours, we started a vintage racing class that is still going today. We also did a second car (2nd pic) a '34 Dodge. Good luck with your build and enjoy the hell out of it! Regards, Dave.
KOOL ! Have Fun ! Be Safe ! Try to avoid the dangerous trend in Vintage racing that's happening here in Midwest, some involved are putting late style high HP engines in and modern wide tires on these old racers combine that with at least 1/2 of the drivers never raced anything ever, most involved are older, way past racing days, makes for a disaster coming IMO.
I'm just looking to have fun not being competitive leaving it the way I got it with the 265. The group I'm joining just want to have fun
To expand on what "wicarnut" said, where I am, there are a bunch of guys who raced in the late '80's and early '90's whose cars are no longer competitive in regular races. They have found out that guys like us (running cars built in the '60's and '70's) are "low hanging fruit" to be picked off at the vintage races. Be careful what groups you join and decide to run with. Most clubs have a 25 year rule that lets in a lot of 355 Chevy's and professional components.
VARC states if you want to be competitive and race hard join a real racing circuit this is about having fun and more importantly showing off these cars that just arent around much anymore. Its more of a car show and then racing for fun afterwards
If anyone knows of vintage dirt shows or anything car shows that this car would fit in let me know. Im looking to travel all over Ohio and closer parts of Michigan Indiana and Pennsylvania
Finally got the car to the track made a few laps had some fun time to tinker with some things and go back out again
