History 1961 Bonneville National Speed Trials ... PICS !!!

I recently stumbled upon the archive of "Negative Collection" ... and using the website's search feature, discovered hundreds of images shot at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

A**** these images were sixty-five (65) B&W photographs taken on August 23rd 1961 at the 13th Annual Bonneville National Speed Trials.

Jack Spencer’s #116 B / Comp Coupe (with a 392ci Chrysler HEMI)​

 

Driver Joe Locasto works on the (Clark Cagle prepared) blown fuel 455ci Chrysler HEMI
in the Sanchez-Callahan #400 A / Compe***ion Coupe
The iconic '53 Studebaker qualified at 231.66 MPH and set new cl*** record at 230.587 MPH

Nolan White's #134 B / Sports Racing entry (an early '50s Glaspar G2 roadster ... turned coupe)​

 

Knot Farrington's #230 "Hel's Angel" A / Sports Racing entry (with 429ci Chrysler HEMI)
The modified '56 Thunderbird qualified at 228.57 MPH and set new cl*** record at 219.898 MPH​

 

Carl W. Borgh's #710 C / Lakester (with a 248ci Dodge HEMI) at the Motel​

 

Craig Breedlove in the #133 Schapel~Orndorff “Super Cutl*** Kart" Streamliner (with a 16.3ci Standun)​

 

Vesco & Son's #444 Streamliner
(powered by a supercharged 176ci '32 Ford 4-banger with Riley head & Isky cam)
ran a top speed of 193 MPH​

 

Tommy Thompson's #990 "Golden Rod" C / Streamliner​

Els Lohn's #1000 "Wee Eel II" G / Streamliner
The Paxton-blown 61ci Morris powered 'liner qualified at 179.28 MPH and set new cl*** record at 147.564 MPH​

 

Ermie Immerso's #333 "Dean Van Lines" B / Streamliner (with a 432ci Ford)
qualified at 223.32 MPH but failed to set a new cl*** record​

NOTE: This car was originally Chet Herbert's (#666 BEAST 4 > #666 BEAST 5 > #333 twin Chrysler Hemi > #333 three Chevy V8s) streamliner. Ermie purchased it in 1959 and reconfigured as the #333 "KRAFT AUTO Special" 'liner with two supercharged Chrysler HEMIs (one forward of the driver driving the front wheels & and one behind the driver driving the rear wheels).

 

Art Arfons' "Anteater" (Allison-powered) Streamliner
had top time of the meet at 313 MPH but ran out of space on the short course (i.e., no records set) ​

 

Mickey Thompson​

 

Larry Mandreal's #27 "The Quiet Kid" motorcycle
(powered by water-cooled Scott 3-cyl, 2-stroke outboard motor)
reached 101 MPH before the gearbox blew​

 

The Joe Dudek ~ Bill Johnson #15 Motorcycle Streamliner
(powered by a 37ci Norton Twin)
Bill rode it to a top speed of 188 MPH with a two-way average of 179 MPH​

NOTE: In 1962, the #15 'liner returned to the salt and set some very impressive records ... as do***ented in this April 1963 HOT ROD Magazine article:
