  2. That gave me the chills Al! I was just happy to find a couple pics of this car but you are blowing my mind with all this stuff! I would have never thought I would be able to get so much history on this car. Thanks @Ryan and the HAMB!

l am waiting for hrp to tell me what to do.Meanwhile lve picked up the nasty habit of restoring old dirt track stockcars. One of which is my avatar.I also have a 35 Ford 2 door sdn,and I am currently finishing restoring a 37 Ford flatback sdn.which was started in 63 64 for Langhorne 1965 pavement. It is powered by a 430 Lincoln. As for your car,the last time I saw it,must have been 30 years ago,lt was owned by a fellow in the Pottsville area and was sitting in a barn,no axles under it,sitting next to Russ Smiths "11 also no axles under it.Also the roof was smashed flat on the 11.How it got out of state,I have no idea.I am also an alliance member but for some reason no credit given.

That's quite the bread crumb trail your following. Most of the dirt burner boys around these parts double as historians. On an unrelated note I was hangn' out with Tommy Hinner****z's nephew Jim, he's the lead guitarist in a local band; a couple weeks ago. Glad your getting your cars past story.

Bobby Blatt is forced to drive Delp's ride and wins the race. Rules are rules.

  11. Wow! Anyone can drive this thing to a win, haha! That is amazing! Are these all clippings out of your personal collection @Al Consoli?

It's really cool that the Reading newspapers scanned all those old articles. Great source.

  14. I've seen that woodcut of the later #14 on eBay. Pretty neat!

I still haven't heard from either of the Delps that I contacted on Facebook. I'm not convinced the obit that I found from 2016 was the same Russ Delp.

I looked at that obit from 7-12-16 and that cannot be the same Russ Delp. He would have to be about 10 years older, and I had never heard that he p***ed away.

  16. I had a little time last weekend and the weather has been so nice that I was able to rebuild the front hub and got her rolling again with some tubes in three of the four tires. image.jpeg
I also started cleaning up the old 8RT engine that was in the shop (slated for another project.) I've had it running on the stand so it should be good enough to get the coupe back on the track!

    image.jpeg
I also have this '42 truck trans that I need to convert to closed drive to mate back up with the TT quick change.
    image.jpeg
The linkage appears to be stock '34 so I guess I'll need to change out the clutch fork shaft as well in the later trans. Or modify the arm?
    image.jpeg

Anyway, not much progress but at least moving foreword!

Making some good progress! On those truck trans, do you only have to swap the rear housing and the main shaft to convert it?

Ran across the same problem in my race car with the clutch, ended up switching out the clutch fork shaft, worked out well.

  19. I believe that is all I have to do? I picked up a main shaft from a friend yesterday so hopefully I can make it all jive. I've been reading my Van Pelt's book as I've never really messed with one of these before (or been inside any transmission really?)

I'm pretty sure that's all, but not 100% certain. The Van Pelt book is priceless... Tore mine apart and rebuilt it at 19, so I'm sure you'll do fine! The only thing I've had a problem with is the br*** synchronizer rings.. Even after replacing all the bearings, rings, etc. I ended up with a grinding between 2nd and 3rd, unless I double clutch. Kind of frustrating.

Talked to a local guy who knows his stuff and had the same thing happen. Took the trans apart and found the new synchronizer ring was smaller then a good used one he had. Just something to think about- be sure to hang onto the old rings if you decide to find new ones.

1959 .... Reading's version of the "Big One"

You can see the roof of the #14 on the right. I remember being very upset that so many of those nice cars got wrecked. Pauly Blatt (#16 jr. on the left) got a serious head injury and quit driving. His brother, Bobby drove the car after him.

I managed to find a copy of that Reading Fairgrounds Memories book. It is on the way to me as we speak!

Look what I found ! I was looking for something on my bookshelf tonight and this fell out when I removed another book.
It was a once and done yearbook, published in mid-July of 1961. It is rather cheap and small with only about 50 pages. 1961RSCA_p1.jpg
There were very few of them printed, and I doubt that you could easily find one. I had 2 of them at one time. I'm sure the other is long gone, but I'm glad I found this one in excellent condition.

Man, this car is awesome with some real history. I still can't get over that one picture where he snapped the Ford torque tube. Those things are seriously strong. It must have taken some real force to snap it clean like that.

Keep us updated on the progress.
