Hey there everyone! I am a newbie from Chicago il. I picked myself up a pretty nice 1950 plymouth special deluxe. I am having an issue with getting her to turn over. The engine doesn't seem to be seized...rebuilt the starter and generator and did most of the tune up except for wires...got the wrong ones from parts store. All in all I need some help! Thanks! Help with what? I have worked on a lot of old flathead Plymouths and could always get them running if the rod wasn't sticking thru the block. The main thing is that it has compression. If it has compression you can make it run. Just add spark and gas.

Thank you for the reply!! . I got it to crank over 2-3 times and then the starter silanoid starts clicking. This is after I replaced almost every component to the ignition system except wires and voltage regulator. It is still 6v positive ground.

You describe a weak battery or possibly bad connections. 6v systems need clean tight joints where the wires connect. It might pay to take them apart and clean them and make sure they are tight. Also that you have a good engine ground.

It is possible to get it running on a 12v battery if the 6v is shot. Or maybe just needs a charge.

Update to the plymouth problem! I got her turning! Seems like the brand spanking new battery was the issue! Thanks again to all for the help!

If it will turn over, and has compression, it will run. Next up is to be sure you are getting a good spark, at the right time, in all cylinders.
