Ron - Nice. Always envisioned Texas the land of big sky and swaggerin' dudes...Seems like Austin's a lot more like Ferndale, MI than a cattle ranch! Makes being a GMB kinda middle of the road, methinks. So is Ry, er...I mean...Leslie an honorary HAMB'er? Mascot?
I was there, but I missed that weirdeness. Just had a great time with too much to see in the time you have.
Don't remember him, but I remember Black Elvis. He used to wear a furry crown and sit on the sidewalk singing Elvis tunes for tips (and swore he was Elvis and would get mad if you said otherwise.) My buddy's G/F got separated from her friends and got lost downtown late one night way back when (like 15yrs ago) and Black Elvis took her under his wing and gave her a ride home to San Marcos. Helluva nice guy. Man, that was a scary night, I'm glad it all worked out. I worked security at Liberty Lunch, so she came to try to find me (so she walked there by herself from 6th.) Once she got to the Lunch, I was working the stage, so she couldn't get to me so she got someone to buy her a drink and proceeded to get kicked out for being underage. So, she just started walking back and forth between the Lunch and 6th at 1-2am looking for someone she knew... not good! When the show was over, one of the door guys told me that she had come in and they had kicked her out, so I stayed up there till dawn with some buddies roaming the alleys trying to track her down. Man that was scary. The worst part was having to call her folks at 5AM to see if she'd gone to thier house. :-/
I think every town has their weirdos. When I was in high school Clark Kent used to come to our football games. He'd stand at the top of the bleachers and tear off his suit and be wearing a superman t-shirt with cape *think the kind that come with under roos*. Then he'd haul *** down the bleachers and take a flying leap. I miss high school............kinda............sorta.
you know, there's a little bit of Leslie in all of us...wait that didn't sound right...but really...an outcast a**** outcasts. normally each one of us is Leslie as we're driving around in our old cars, as we p***, people wondering, "WHY? why would someone DO that?" then we ***emble, and do our outcast thing together, and there's Leslie. it's almost poetic.
There was a guy in Manchester we used to see when we went to punk rock shows as teenagers, we called him The Leaner. His speciality was to stand on the kerb and lean as far as he could into traffic. His leaning days were brought to an end by a bus that he obviously misjudged the size of.
did you miss the guy on SUnday morning sitting on his **** scooting up Congress backwards? That was pretty strange
Austin is a college town similar to Ann Arbor, Madison or Berkeley. you are going to find lots of non-mainstream thinkers. I sounds like a bunch you have never traveled to see how other people live
