for god's sake son, save yourself some money by NOT buying flame throwers...seriously, you're heading along in the right direction, don't swerve off the road, roll down an embankment and burst into flames...

Red looks good......... but I think I am going to keep it the color it is , I like your ideas with the pipes, www's and the scallops. I am thinkin of doing the scallops and the roof a lighter shade of green and adding some flake to it

my preference for later 60s stuff is thin whites all the way. wide whites stopped being an option on new cars around 63 or so, so they look out of place, i think. customizing seems to always parallel modern design. wide whites harken to the 50s and earlier. most customs you see made from late 50s cars on up had thin whites or none at all later. lakes also disappeared around this time, too. not saying period perfect is the only way to go, but it helps to keep a concept straight. that being said, i dig later impalas too. here's mine. bodywork ****s, but i like my idea behind it, and it was the first bodywork my best friend and i had ever done. collecting parts to make it better, too. 4 speed was a big help. funny, i had black steelies and thins on it before the astros too. hope you got 15x7 astros, cuz it's a pain to find whites, thin or otherwise, to fit a 15x8. this is why i have a rubber rake...

i'm thinkin my car needs a subtle fade job with the same war bonnet yellow base color i have now when it undergoes its second reincarnation...

I agree. I was jus taking that extra step. I believe in being period perfect but i also believe in being different. Not every as always agreed with my concept but I put them out there anyway in hope folks can get some sort of value out of it. If not, that's their right and they are certainly en***led to their opinon.

Your Impala, by the way, is awesome. That color looks like the parchment color I have seen don 69-72 GM trucks.

there is a direct lineage from 'bellflower' style cars to early lowriders, but i don't think at any point they would include flamethrowers. you risk ****in' up your nice (and expensive) paint job. you'll draw enough attention without setting small children on fire.

wwws really shouldn't be on anything post-62, certainly not a 67. chromedrat's chevy is dead-on with the narrow whites, they're also cheaper, if you need to replace one.

we're just trying to help you keep it focused on one theme here. you have a great start there, you don't wanna throw it out of whack with mis-matched components. kinda like a nice little hot rod with a flathead and a tweed interior...:)

For the above reasons, they dont belong on anything other than a military combat Hummer. :rolleyes

You wouldn't be saying that if you lived in EAST St Louis...
    It's regional.
For example, Harlem (and E.SL, and S.LA) pimps will put WWW's on anything...)

Scallops and other "Custom by paint" additions work well on some of the boxy "shoebox" shaped cars, like 50 Fords, '55-'56 Chevys and '63-'64 Chevy's that have little to offer in sculpted shape themselves. They are almost a flat canvas ready to tag a mural onto, but cars like this one example, where the body has it's own almost flowery sculpted curves and contours, any graphics added just confuse and irritate what a person is looking at.

This car DOESN'T NEED any scallops of any kind!

Just shoot it a solid color with an all-over irridescent pearl over it to highlight what's already there in the shape of the car.

    from nowhere

photoshop of a mild custom bellflower lowrider...

the bellflower high was pre-67 and even then, not that many had wide whites...so if youre trying to be bellflower then www aint gunna fly on a 67, nor will lakes.

i agree on the paint idea too...just shoot it one color that has some flake or pearl in it, it will make that body look liquid smooth.

    but to each his own.

  28. Fill in the area where the trim on the hood edge is, 5 lengths of polished 3/8" SS tube, and a pair of French Cibie headlights
