Well all I can say is WOW!!! The Continentals sure know how to bring it all together. Last year all we could hear about about was how cool Paso was. After this year Paso does not compare to the Roundup. You all know or followed the thrash on the 30 Roadster. We left town with about 60 miles on it hoping for the best. Made it into Austin around 10:00 pm ans headed straight for Congress. It was already booming. Cool cars everywhere. I did not want to go to sleep but we did. Friday morning we headed out to Reggies ( Hotwheels) place to go do some garage crawling. I could have stayed at Reggies place all day drooling over his rides. Seemed like the whole Hamb was there. I think around 40 cars attended. It was the first meet and greet of the weekend. The crawl was awesome. I just cant say enough about Reggie and the hospitality he gave us. He is awesome He took us to places that are rarely seen by friends much less a group of Hot Rodders that he dont even know. The stops had breakfast, drinks, etc. I could have garage crawled all weekend. It really makes you wonder what is in all the garages back home. I guess the crawl was about 100 miles long so by this time I had about 350 miles on the Roadster with no problems. A shot of cruising One of the stops on the crawl Next stop was to get our packets for the Show on Congress. It was booming for sure. My first pass down Congress was the highlight of the weekend. Knowing I got the Roadster going and for once I was driving my own ride down the strip. This is the only show that I have ever been too where you see so many cool 30's - 40' model cars everwhere. The rest of the night was a blur of smiling faces and drooling over cars all night. We did end up at trophys and jambed to Honky till about 2 in the morning. Saturday morning we missed the free breakfast but made it out to the park about 10 and headed in. My family came down so It was so cool to have my wife, daughter, and new son cruise through the gates in the roadster with me. The show was awesome. We met at the pink Caddy and got our Cookies From Denise. They were great as uaual. Got to meet alot of Hambers that were all cool. I missed so many photo opportunities but I know some were taken. Seemed like I talked to someone at the show the whole time. You would walk 10 feet and meet someone else. It was cool. It was cool to see so many Hamb cars there that we have watched the build up on. AussieSteve's 32 is awesome. just cant say enough about it. Bass's Coupe, DW's Blown Coupe, Reggies Coupe, BOB Bleeds Roadster ,Jonny Cola's Coupe, Man they were all there. The Dirty Compound Sleeping Saturday night we headed out to The South Austin Speed Shop. Mercury Charlie really knows how to throw a party. Free Beer, Pizza, Cokes, etc. Some cool band was playing with most of Stevie Ray Vaughn's members. Got to see alot of Fatluckys work as well as what the shop had going on. Hung out with AussieSteve most of the time there which was a blast. After the shin did we headed back to Congress. We ended up behind AussieSteve and the 32. It was very cool cruising down Congess with 2 cars that were on there maiden voyages. It was a Hamb moment that I think did not get captured on film. The cruise Saturday night was pretty insane. Lots of cool cars parked and cruising. We hung out most of the night with Denise, Plowboy, Plowgirl, Clark, Jerry, etc. Sunday we headed out on the cruise to Ski Shores burger joint. It was a awesome cruise with some California looking scenory. Had some great burgers and a cool 2 piece band was playing. After the lunch we all headed over to the Flyrite party. We cruised up and it was laready happening, pig cooking, beer, bikes, cars, and women. It was cool to see all the growth flyrite has made in such a short time. After that it was time to say our goodbuys and head back to Dallas. Got back to Dallas area around 9 wore smooth out. I put about 600 miles on the Roadster on its MAiden Voyage. The Nailhead did pretty good. Seemed really reliable. The Dirty's did all we could do at the Roundup except the breakfast. It was the coolest show we have ever been too. YOu just cant go to a show where there is always three or four things going on the whole weekend. If you missed it you better go next year. The city of Austin, the Continentals, all the local builders, Hotwheel, Mercury Charlie (soss) . Skots with the 32, etc roll out the red carpet for us. Thanks yall so much for a good time from the Dirty's. Hamilton doing a Dirty Logo
Few more pics The best part of the Roundup was having my family attend with me. And it truely is a family event The Dirty's getting some gas Till next year, Thanks Austin
Cool words, Rusty. I really missed being able to run the shop crawl like I did last year... I wasn't sure how well Luke would handle being away from home w/o Mama that long... so I didn't want to chance it. Seems like I get deeper into the Roundup each year... maybe next year I won't procrastinate about registering and will actually get in on more action!
excellent read and great pics, the ones of the kids, of course...man, little Danyelle had me in stitches the whole time I was dirtyin' up the dirty-mobile.....she's the best, wish I was just half the real hot rodder she is. ....the dirty's rule.
So I met you in Paso last year, for me Paso is all ways a great show, being a west coast guy and all. Is the Roundup really better than Paso ? I keep hearing how it's the greatest.......but Paso is pretty great too.
Hey, I forgot to say great job on the roadster. I enjoyed following along as it went together. So did the coupe go away ?
Good to meet all of yall. I knew some East Texas boys would represent us well. Small world. Turns out BJ who I met that drives the 63 Galaxie convertible lives within a mile of me. I definately want to jump in to more of the events next year. I didn't print anything out and just scribbled a few notes. My sister is bugging me that wants to tag along next year with me.
No shit?!? That would have been cool to see! Any idea what incarnation it was? They were part of Arc Angels and Storyville... then Double Trouble (but they'll always be double trouble.) DAMN, now I REALLY wish I had gone!
your roadster turned out killer rusty! good meeting up with you at the RU. the Dirtys sure build some top notch vehicles as the Dirty34 made it to austin and back with no problems whatsoever!
No. We have a fun little show, but Paso is the shit. Rusty, congrats on the roadster. The car looks and sounds great. I'm glad it's so reliable right out of the box. That's a testament to ya'll hard work. Wish I had a picture of ya'll smiles when you pulled in to park at the show.
Man, I'm stoked about that nailhead roadster. A 600 mile shakedown with no problems. You deserved that. Good pics of the rugrats too. Keep up the good work.
Yeah I have been doing hunny do's since I got home Sunday. She is great to have let me do it. Thanks everyone on the compliments, It has definately been a journey. And yes I went to Paso last year and it was great, but the Roundup ruled for a three day show by far. Everything about it is great
It is on my short list of to-do's for sure. I really like Austin, the music scene is great and I can only imagine how it is with all those hot rods running around. Next year it'll be Paso AND the Roundup.
It was so-o-o-o cool to walk out my front door and see the Dirty's parked. For some reason I felt you all were garage crawling kinda folks. Glad you enjoyed it. By the way, your roadster looked and sounded awesome.....and the Dirty32 was bitchen as usual.
Thanks Reggie, I am just mad we did not crawl last year with you or the year before. Now We know where you and your shop is the Dirty's may stop by now and then when passing through. About Paso, I may be wrong but we went last year. It was a awesome show with some of the best cars in the us there. And the Dirtys wish we could go this year But all the extra events that the Roundup has maked it better in my opinion. The shows are about the same as far as the park. but the nightlife, the cruise, the bands, the bars, the garage crawls, the hotrod shops, the hospitality, etc make better. There is like three things going on at all times and they are all in short driving distance from each other. You just cant go to another show and get this much out of it. The Roundup ruled this year. Paos may have had this too we just did not know about it.
Saw you guys zoom by a few times but I'm sorry I did not get a chance to say hello in person. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet Yall at Day of the drags this year. Till then, take care. David
No problem, I met your wife at the BBQ at Flyrite and we talked about the little incindent Friday night, sucks, Oh well we can all relieve our steam at the Drags. Cant wait to see what that Coupe will do at the drags. Loved seeing it and knowing you drove it.
It was wonderful to see you guys again, especially Danyelle. She's got personality plus and is always a pleasure to chat with. Thanks too for the ride in your roadster. It was one of the highlites of the weekend for me. You should be very proud, it turned out great. I'll see you guys at the Hot Rod Reunion in a couple of months.
Good to meet you Dirty31 - your car is killer. And thanks for the advise on the hanging pedals. I'll PM later to get some more info.
