What paint do you use when restoring a early 60's gauge. The needle is all faded out. Looks to have been florescent orange at one time.

Yeah, I've always heard that flourescent model paint is perfect for guages, and as an added bonus, you don't have to buy very much.

You can probably get the day-glo orange at the hobby shop too.

I have an old oak octagon case Ansonia school clock that I inherited from my Grandfather.
When I got it the blued steel hands were rusy so I cleaned them up with some steel wool only to find the bluing gone.
I didn't have any bluing but I had a can of midnight blue metallic Pactra model car paint so I shot them with that.
I just wound the clock and checked the hands.
    The paint still looks good.
    I painted them when I was 13, I'm 57 now.

Testors Model Master Day Glo Orange was an exact match for the needles in my 65 El Camino. You could get Candy Apple red for a custom look;)

You gotta be really steady when painting the needles, the paint is translucent, and little blobs end up very noticable.

Another good source for that paint and others is from fishing tackle sellers. Many do it yourselfers use lots of wild colors when making their fishing lures and that's just what I painted my speedo needle with. :D They come in very small bottles too.

If there are no hobby shops near you, try a craft store like "Michael's".

They have cool pinewood derby kits too.

The dayglo orange Testors paint also comes in a paint pen that worked really well for me on those needles.
