    Hey everyone,

I have a 1951 DeSoto with a rotten steering wheel which is disintegrating onto the floorboards. It is beyond repair and I have heard that finding one for his car from another DeSoto is basically impossible. However I have found a steering wheel from a 1949 Dodge which I think will work. I have checked my interchange book to see if the splines are the same and I couldn't find anything. Does anyone have any experience with this issue. Did Dodge/Plymouth/DeSoto/Chrysler use the same racks back then?

Go here and ask for Dodgeb4ya, he will be able to tell you, as well as others.

  4. I tried joining that site but couldn't pass their "security" questions. First they asked "what is the firing order of a mopar flathead 6". Never having owned one (my car has a 318 small block) I had to look it up. The answer is: 153624. They told me this was wrong. Next they asked: what is the difference between a "business coupe" and a "club coupe". I answered: a "business coupe" has 3 windows, and a "club coupe" has 5. Wrong again! I tried: a "club coupe" has a back seat! Nope, wrong again! I decided the hell with it, and gave up.

My question is: where can I get an adapter to mount a custom steering wheel on my '50 Dodge? (Not trying to hijack your thread, just thought you might be interested too.)

I have searched the internet with no luck!

My experience - '49 up, all Chrysler made wheels share the same spline until it doesn't matter anymore.
The '50-'54 Chryslers were my favorites - in cheap Plymouths they made a lot of difference.

Thanks for the input. When I was younger you couldn't have caught me dead near a mopar of any kind mainly due to my friend owning a dodge neon. As I grew older, I started to like mopars of all kinds but mainly the 60s-70s. The DeSoto was an impulse buy that's turned out to be an interesting learning experience.
