Currently designing a 1927 roadster to attend wyotech if your design is chosen you get to build it. Ive never thought about building such a cl***ic so I'm kind of clueless with what suspension works best and where to begin. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Seeing how I'm cluelessly trying to piece it together
This front end looks like it has a single cross leaf and a drop axle, no 1/4 eliptics here. ........... Jack
Pick up a copy of the Bishop/Tardel "How to Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod". Lot's pics and info that will show you the way and help you get focused. Good luck and welcome to the HAMB family.................
At wyotec you are probably going to want coil overs on the rear if you want to get chosen and a 4 link. They may be impressed with quarter elips on the front or a spring behind setup. You definitely want the front axle in front of the radiator. Do not think with tradition in mind if you want to get chosen, think flash.
Mr. ****** has a good point. Wyotech is probably wanting to see a more modern design. Good luck and keep us informed. Joe Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What would be a good motor to use? I wanted to use a 3.4 v8 ford motor but will I come across issues and do most people want a flat head or cl***ic motor or could I throw a more modern motor
I think what pork and the others are saying is that for your design to be picked, it must be something on the cutting edge. Those of us here are imbedded in Traditional Hot Rods, which might seem mundane to the selection committee. I really don't know what they'll be looking for, but they probably won't pick something that we here would build. So you might be asking for ideas in the wrong place. (I hope you prove this to be incorrect.) Those of us here would use a Ford Flattie, an early Cadillac or Olds V-8, a Buick nailhead V-8, or a SBC. Something like the Caddy, Olds, or Buick might be just "out there" enough to get their attention.
Dylan Whether it's feasible or not you should Google Chip Foose P32 roadster, it's pretty wild but in a traditional sort of way. I bet if you pulled it off you'd get an A+. If nothing else use it for inspiration. Here is a HAMB thread on it. Make sure to check out all 4 pages as there are lots of suspension drawings. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/foose-p-32-roadster-have-you-studied-the-steering.509047/
Thanks for all the help, and I know that a traditional would normally have a "flattie" but aren't those pretty rare? Why I was thinking a newer motor and since I've been researching I find myself liking the traditional look, I'll keep you guys updated
When i was planning my 27 coupe i googled alot to find inspiration. I problaby looked at over 1000 pics on the internet to pick out what i like and not. During that time i was most intressed in stance, rideheight, wheelbase and overall look. Not that much in wich style they where built. Then i could nail down how i want my axels mounted and the style i wanted. Then i made a quick mock up using 2x4 wood as a frame to determine the relation betvin body, engine, grilleshell and wheels. Why should you do all this work? To make sure you got the car YOU want, Not what other people think you should have. Most motors are possibly to make look older with some makeup so use what you like.
