I have a 1959 ford fairlane that had a 292 in it and I bought a 351 Windsor with a noise gear drive and edlebrock cam and a C6 trans to drop in her. I was wondering what all I'm gunna need to change to make it fit (motor mounts, oil pan)? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Check this kit out, he's an alliance vendor so you may get a discount for being a HAMBer. http://www.butchscoolstuff.com/57-59-ford-original-v8-cars-mercury-sb-ford-engine-mount-kit-2507cpb/ You will most likely need a front-sump pan to clear the crossmember.
Not the most difficult swap in the world, but it will take bit of work. I stuck a 351W and AOD into a '57 Ranchero for a friend. A bit different then the '59 Fairlane, but somewhat similar. Here is a generic list to consider. Motor Mounts: I used late 80's Bronco with 1.5" spacers to lift the motor up a bit, since the Y-block mounts are down, lower on the cross-member. Not a bolt in, but close, only required a bit of welding and drilling. Trans Mounts: The AOD and C6 use the same mount style (in the same location). Plan on fabbing a new cross member. Also the C6 is a big long transmission. Plan on a new driveshaft and maybe having to massage the trans tunnel in the floor Oil Pan: I Had to switch from the 4x4 deep sump to a front sump car pan, '80 something Crown Vic should work. Tranny Cooler: Does the car have one in the rad now, or will you have to add one? Also, plan on fabbing lines Kick Down Cable / rod: Lots of Options, Lokar, Junkyards, etc. Headers: I had to use Fox body mustang Shorties in the Ranchero, mayber there is a bit more room in the Fairlane? Shifter: If the car has a column shift, make a new linkage and run, else you have a myriad of floor shift choices thanks to a stout aftermarket for the C6. Throttle Linkage: You will have to "adjust" the stock one in some way. Good Luck
I bolted a 302 HO into my '59 T'bird (originally a 352 FE) with nothing more than a Bronco oil and and sump, and a very lightly modified trans mount. If recall I had to weld a little different tab on it for the mount. I used the '87 Mustang GT radiator, exhaust. Easiest swap ever. I don't know if the FE mounts are different than your Y block, but that was super easy for me.
Try the Anchor brand motor mounts #2725 & #2726, Anchor trans mount 2753. Shouldn't have to do any mod's to the mounts or front cross member mount pads. For the trans mount you may need to weld a plate off your original trans x-member & drill the 2 holes for the mount. I've done lot's of these conversions and these mounts work well and are reasonably priced.
come to find out my motor is not a Windsor is a 351 M so can anyone direct me to the motor mounts i need?
The 351M is a completely different can of worms from the Windsor. As far as motor mounts, look at '77-'79 F Series / Bronco. Really anything with a single stud into the frame should get you close.
You're not alone. I am dropping a 70 351W with an FOX into my 58 Edsel Corsair. Not worried about motor or trans mounts, but am having fits trying to find a Fomoco lever automatic steering column to get rid of the stock TeleTouch pushbutton selector. Even if rebuilt, it won't work with the electric shift motor or the PRND21 pattern of the FMX. I put a 78 Lincoln 400/C6 in my 56 Merc some years ago with minor motor mount and trans mount tweaking. Good luck with your project, and these guys have hi en you some good leads on the hardware you'll need.
