Hi Guys, I'm currently building my first hotrod (31 A Coupe on 32 frame) and will be purchasing the Steadfast subframe kit to help speed up the build. I was trying to find some pictures/input of what others have done to the bottom of the rear inner fenders? Do most people keep them stock and have the frame tuck up underneath them, or do they cut the bottom of them to follow the contour of the frame? I found some threads on how to do it, but haven't found any pictures of how it looks completed. Thanks for any help!
Just finished that last month ! Hope you spoke to Henry, he will walk you through it. Generally you want to have all the repo panels you'll need cause it all goes together at the same time. Also, you have to decide if you're going to run a 32 style tank in the rear cause the kit is set up to run a 32 tank. If not, you can bring the ends into the rear sub rail crossmember as I did. Otherwise the steadfast rails will end up below the crossmember. Finding the top of the curve of the steadfast rail is job one. Match that to the top of the kick up in the ch***is as your starting point. The inner fenders are the last step. Are you doing quarter repo quarter panels ? Do them before the inner fenders too. That way you " frame" the space for the inner fenders. I trimmed mine to match the kick up of the ch***is. It's a judgement call. Cut the sub rail at least 5" from the B pillars, depending on the condition of the originals. Pics to follow [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Perfect, just what I was looking for! Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to give them a ring tomorrow to place the order. He's only about 2 hours from me so if he has them in stock, I may ride over to pick them up so I can get started on it this weekend. Thanks for the picture too! I think I may go your route as yours looks great!
Here ya go What ch***is are you using ? I used wood mounting blocks, if you do, you'll need them under the steadfast rails. Make sure the body is bolted on the frame with the doors on and lined up when closed. Brace the body with steel rods before you start cutting the old subrail. Make sure the ch***is is level both ways too. Good luck ! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I tucked mine just inside the subrails, t******* the lip of the subrails just a tad. I wanted the rumble seat to remain useable in my car so that is my reasoning for doing what I did.
