    Dear Fellow Auto Enthusiast:

As you are probably aware, a Connecticut bill (H.B. 7050) to restrict antique vehicle registrations AND raise property taxes on these cars will be considered on Thursday, March 9. This bill is bad news for the vintage car hobby. The message below is of special urgency because the committee hearing date is so close. Here is a web link with details: http://semasan.com/page.asp?content=aa2017CT2&g=SEMAGA If you can forward the link to all of your contacts in the state, it would be greatly appreciated.

As an influential voice in the state, here are other ways you can help out immediately:

    · If you haven’t yet done so, use the lawmaker contact ****on on the webpage to easily send a personal message using the points given.

    · Forward the information to friends, family and others in the state and ask them to contact the committee using the ****on also.

    · Share the news using club and/or personal social media channels. You may share posts from the SAN’s Facebook and Twitter pages as well.

    · Spread the word on forums, blogs and any other online communities to which you belong.

Thank you for acting quickly and helping us demonstrate the importance of our pastime. Your support is truly appreciated.

Oregon just attempted something similar. A tax of $1000 every 5 years on vehicles over 20 years old. Fortunately it was dead before it hit the floor. Largely in part due to The SEMA Action Network.

Thankyou Photogs189 for posting this, and hopefully these types of tax proposals die a quick death every time they are proposed.

I hope it doesn't p*** for the sake of those who enjoy the hobby in CT .
Can you imagine what it will do to guys that have numerous cars (Phil Fl...)!

This could become a real problem if CT implements this personal property tax on collector vehicles. It could spread everywhere. Right now in Kentucky there is no problem with collector vehicles you pay next to nothing. The real problem we could face down the road is if states ever get smart enough to ***ess personal property taxes on the amount our cars are insured for.

Not that I am for raising the age limitations on cl***ic vehicles at all but if you look at the bill It would only effect cars made after 1987. I don't really care if some guy who has an 87 toyota corrolla doesnt get to register it as a cl***ic do you guys?! I see econobox p.o.s 80's and 90's cars with cl***ic plates on them and it really rubs me the wrong way. Just my observations.

It would also double the property tax on all collector vehicles, not just 87 and newer. It is a slippery slope as our legislature has never found a revenue source it did not feel it could get more and more out of as time goes by. Death by a thousand cuts so to speak. In the last 10 years my business en***y tax has
more than doubled, income taxes have risen, sales tax has risen, property tax has gone up every year etc. We all need to fight this now, or they will just keep nibbling away at us.

I've been here in Connecticut for 66+ years. I never understood why a 20 year old POS was an "Antique" here in Connecticut. Check out any lumber yard or Home Depot and make a list of the **** boxes with "Antique" plates. It is about time these people got kicked off the "Collector" list and paid normal taxes on their ****. :mad:Bob

****ing commie pinkos....raise your property tax on something that you use a couple of times a year.
I've been following SEMA on Facebook, and it seems that people have been trying their hardest to do anything they can to turn the screws on cl***ic car owners.

You are right Bob,if you read the bill the cars will have to be 30 years and older to qualify for the vintage tax if I am reading it correctly. I see 1984 toyota's running around with early american tags.

Sent it this evening from work. We all know that the "up to $1000" will mean "$1000 per year". With the trouble the State finances are in and the cuts they are making to the towns and cities (who have their own troubles), we know that they will charge nothing under the max.

When stuff like this comes up, people have to start calling their reps and showing up at meetings.

Off topic, but here in MA, there was some legislation about to quietly p*** that was going to devastate my wife's entire trade (reflexology). It's a small group of people state wide, so there was no opposition, until she fought it, went in several times to speak before the reps to explain her side. (She doesn't take "no" for an answer). Long story short, after a lot of her mostly single handed effort, it was struck down. If MA would have p***ed this legislation, so would have gone the surrounding states, a lot of people would have been SOL.

This bill in CT is bigger, but it's the same idea. You have to FIGHT the MAN. You have to fight their way, in their fancy offices, you have to say it loud, you have to get in front of them and say:

This is ****! The government is out of great ideas and now trawling the citizens for monetary shakedowns. They are so f++ked that they are skimming hippies legalizing Mary-Jane just to meet state tax quotas. And boy are they reaping the rewards. Total pimps. California has been trying this for over two decades. Watch out, ballin' yer 'ol lady and walking are next!

    Beatles-TAXMAN

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman
If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
Don't ask me what I want it for
    If you…

Thanks for reminding me of yet another reason why I left the constipation state for sunny FLA. They stuck it to the law abiding gun owners a few years ago, and continue to by considering a $300. Fee for a pistol permit renewal, and now they are coming after the car collectors and hot rodders. Here's an idea CT..live within a budget like the rest of us. For my fellow retirees from CT., they have also considered taxing your pension if you earned it in Connecticut and retired elsewhere.

God save Connecticut. I'm a native and I still have relatives there. A good start would be to get rid of your governor who is more concerned about bathroom issues than jobs. Defeat this bill, let us know what happened.

  30. Does CT have heavy restrictions on "use" of a vehicle with "antique" plates? I know Ohio does. Insurance is much cheaper too because of those restrictions.
