  2. Electricians tape? What are the properties of electricians tape?

How about hockey tape? Try a sports store.

Hobby Lobby or **** Blick or any good art supply place will also have black cloth tape for framing/edging.

the cloth tape is still used in some electrical applications, go to electrical supply company & you can buy all you want.

The tape you're looking for is called "friction tape". It really doesn't have any adhesive on it-rather,the fabric is impregnated with a tarry like substance which makes it sticky. When wrapped on itself the stickiness causes "friction" which prevents it from slipping and unwinding. Typical vinyl electrical tape has an adhesive which isn't powerful enough to resist the force of the vinyl trying to revert to its original length (just TRY to wrap a bundle of wires with that stuff without stretching it).
