I've never been turned away at the gate for not having a vehicle, and have enjoyed the hobby since 1961. Every once in a while I wonder what I'd do if I ever have a finished project, anyone else look at the hobby this way? Bob

Seems every time I have a finished car I sell it,I honestly think I am happier with my old beater. HRP

Get it finished and drive the wheels off it.

The answer to that is as varied as the Hobby itself!
I personally, enjoy the challenge, and then can't wait to Sell my Projects, (about 1 every 1-1/2 years).
Hit 'em "hard and fast", and then on to the next one!
My only concern is not having enough lifetime to implement all my designs!

I don't understand the question. Projects are meant to be driven, regardless of whether or not they are finished.

From your profile: "Nothing older than '69 right now. Someday..."
Really...Maybe when "someday" comes, you can get back to us on this, and lets us know just how quick you had your "traditional" project car driveable and on the road.

I enjoy the build more than the ride but to never have finished one in 56 years is just silly....

As soon as I get going on one I find another that I know I'll never have the chance to build again ( or so I tell myself) so I buy it. I try to tell myself that you can't save them all but it just doesn't work LOL [emoji23] I think we all have some sort of sickness..... that being said I haven't even begun to enter any tunnels to try and see any light yet, good question though really made me think!

just about every project that I finished I have sold after several years of enjoyment, I think I get enjoyment in building them and driving them, some cars I built I regret selling , no car is ever finished .

If you're actually driving them often, then, you are never done. Always something to improve or fix.
Would love to have a new project. I really do enjoy building them.
Problem is the last two make me happy and starting anew dictates selling at least one of em.
Its going to take a bucket list car to make that happen.

I enjoy building and driving my hot rods, rain or shine the weather doesn't normally come into play.

I'm not to crazy about washing, waxing and polishing and ladyhrp's wagon is the only one I feel like it's necessary to keep clean. HRP

That line has been used for ages, and I just don't understand the reason behind destroying something it took the better part of a lifetime to finish. I never enjoyed beating the **** out of anything I've spent time building. Bob

Twenty years ago I built my 36, off to the body shop, all finished, *******ed nice truck, still got it, it's now patina'd to death, to the point I'm afraid to make changes, if I don't like the change, I'll never be able to go back. I love the truck, but it's tired and getting old, so I have never finished a car since, that way I don't have a problem making changes. It depends on how attached to them you become.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I found my '30 Roadster body, an old channeled Hot Rod in 1962, sold it and bought it back 25 years later with out one thing done with it. Someday I'll have the body in primer and be able to close the doors. Bob

Bob, they are never done! This winter had the rear out of the coupe for rebuilding, had much of the motor apart looking for a stupid noise. Made some improvements along the way. Last winter had some of the roadster apart. Anyway, yes I am ready for another project but have to decide if it is time to move more south. Hate the long winter as I get older I want to drive my hot rods more. Road trip to Tennessee soon to visit Jim. And look for property! ;) To answer your question there is always another project!

I'm pushing 63, sold the last finished car about the same time I quit going to ******* bars.
Probably 30 years ago, I don't know if I'd even know how to act with either one!

Enjoy the Hobby, from your statement, for you, it appears that the having a project under construction is your enjoyment. I have and do know some guys that the build is their deal, when car is done, sold and on to the next project. We are all different and that's what makes the Hobby interesting IMO. I enjoy the cruises, just cruisin up the road by myself, shows, the people in general, but the work part not so much anymore. ENJOY Your Deal !

Hi Bob, the question only you can answer is - why did/are you building a car?
For me it is because I can not afford a rust free, running Hot Rod. So i am building what I need in a car. A reliable V8 and 4 seats that I can drive every day, even if is just to take my kids to get an ice creem.
Is my car going to win trophies - no,
do I smile every time I turn the key - yes!
    Cheers Aaron.

If its my own,its never really finished, just in a show state, but always needs work. If its a car I build for some one,its finished for me as they drive it away{bill payed}. So whats a finished car?

I usually have the next project in site as I finish the present one. The hunt & build are more enjoyable than the drive.

I drive em and always a few (read several) projects deep. I don't worry about them deteriorating from use thats what I built it for, to use. They deteriorate just sitting and why save it for someone else? My kids can rebuild if needed and if I perish the wifes new boyfriend shouldn't enjoy my unused vehicle cause I didnt want it to deteriorate. I drive them in project state as well, are they ever truly finished?

Traded my driving unfinished sedan delivery project for a painted, upholstered, rechromed 55 Pontiac wagon with a newer engine/trans. Lowered it and changed wheels/tires. Drove it a few months 'till I was bored with it and sold it off at BTT50s to buy another unfinished project to work on. I'm much happier working on a project [preferably a driving project] than driving a finished car. Just me.

when my father and uncle finished this they raced it, drove it to high school and used as a "just a car". the next time it was finished i drove it to high school and to many shows. we redid it again and have been "driving the wheels off it".
only memories of it sitting around are of them in the way. DSCF0018.JPG DSCF0021.JPG DSCF5096.JPG

I like to drive mine, then I get to fix stuff, or modify stuff, to make it better. Eventually I sell some of them.

I guess if you build it as static art, instead of dynamic art, then you might not want to drive it...????

I'd probably be bored but I do think I'd much enjoy a big early 60's family cruiser that's finished and all we had to do is fuel it and drive it. I don't mind a hotrod that's not finished.
