I HAVE A 1941 DODGE LUXURY LINER and need to change from original rims that were size 16 inch 5 bolt 4 inch wide to something else that will fit. Can anyone tell me what will fit it?

The bolt paternity is 5 on 4.5" so you have lots of options. Are you looking to stay with a 16" ?

Factory original equipment wheels from Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and most Chrysler full size vehicles through the '80s will fit your '41 Dodge. Many Dodge pickups and van wheels also fit. In that range of vehicles are 15" diameter wheels in widths varying from 4.5" to 7". For 'normal' sized tires a 5.5" to 6" wheel would work well.

You could check with Coker tire for the size tire that you need.

The wheels off of a mid 50's Chrysler product would give you a 15" diameter, bolt onto your car, and allow you to use the original hubcaps, ***uming you find wheels that have the hubcap clips on them. I had a set of '54 DeSoto wheels on my '40 Chrysler and they were 15x6 and my '40 Chrysler caps snapped right on. I think the Dodge and Plymouth ones were only 5" wide but they'd work fine too.

I am not sure about the Dodge, but the Chryslers of 40-41 had a locating pin on the drum which means you aren't going to be able to use just any 4.5" bolt pattern wheel on there, unless you're going to grind that locating pin off, you need wheels that not only have the right bolt pattern, but also have the holes for the locating pin, and have a big enough center hub hole to fit over your drums (the Ford wheels of the era had the same pattern but a smaller center hub hole).

That's why I'm suggesting the early to mid 50's Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler/DeSoto wheels. They take a 15" tire, they will allow your original hubcaps to snap on, they will go onto your drums without having to remove the locating pin, and they look more period correct than the newer wheels do anyway.

Don't know how easy those will be to find in Canada, I have some here I could sell you but shipping would be high and I'm not sure when I could get them to you.

A regular tire shop most likely will NOT have tires for old cars. Ya gotta get them from someone who caters to that market.

Thanks for the info. I have never had to change out rims before. The 4 inch tires are not a good ride at highway speeds so i want to go to a bigger all season radial.

The center hub hole is 3 in and that is what i am not sure about. I guess i will have a project with a measuring tape and look for something.
