    Does the same apply to v6's? My buddy has a 95 4Runner with a V6 and a 5spd. 5th Is .8 I think. It runs fine at 60 in 5th.

  3. Depends on the horsepower and torque...sometimes just a fine line between works good and not so good. Might just have to slip out of overdrive at certain speeds to prevent lugging. Keep looking at it.

StarDiero, you've gotten a lot of good transmission suggestions, but you should back up and look at something else: the bolt pattern, or mounting surface on the back of your 200" block. Do you know if it is a '65 block, and original to your ride?

Up until '65, the bell housing mount was exclusive to the 144-170 and early 200 block. Sometime in '66 they started using a dual pattern six & V8 bell mount, and by late '67-'68, all 200 & 250 sixes had a same bell mount pattern as the V8 block. The flywheel and clutch set-up changed along in there, also. So, the thing is, the 3+1 trans from the '80's won't fit an early 200 six. As for the various Japanese OD 5 speeds, I got no info, except to say that you will still need some sort of adapter to mount the Asian bell housing. I do know that these swaps have had some success down under.

You may want to go over the FordSix Forums website, and find out who has the latest/best adapter plate to mount a T-5 onto your stock 3 speed bell. Get a T-5 with the shifter location that matches the hole in your trans tunnel, if possible. Measure your bell housing, trans adapter, and trans shifter location combined to get this, then measure from the back of the block in the car and see if you can get a match. I know its not quite the same floor pan, but years ago, I got the bell housing for my '66 Mustang w/ a 200 six converted to bolt directly onto a '90's Ford T-5. The shifter tower comes up right in the shifter location hole in the floor pan hump. Ford did not make anything easy when it came to these type swaps

Good luck w/ your project, K6

The swap that's usually most common is the Ford T5, with an S10 T5 tail housing swapped. Puts it into a nice package, shifter is where it needs to be.

I just bought one of these for Dads 56 pu.I'd like to move shifter ahead, the holes are all there on tailshaft.Furthest ahead should be truck and bench seat I think.

They used this type trans in Fairmonts and Granadas and F150s they use shifters like a top loader look for a toploader with the 3-4 shift lever turned down instead of up. If it has ORION cast in the case it is a 3 + 1 but not all 3 + 1 say ORION.

you know that ford and other makes used the borg warner overdrives. ford started using them in '49 and i think finally discontinued them in about '68. the r-10 is the more common one and the r-11 was used on big blocks. besides reducing hiway rpms, you can engage the o.d. in city driving, start out in 2nd direct, lift your foot and you're in 2nd overdrive, which is close to regular 3rd gear. lots of 'em still around!

Again, a good suggestion for an overdrive, but these trans won't fit any bell housing that bolts onto a '65 Falcon 200" six. Later, K6
