Need some advice. I am putting a 51 Flattie in a 36 frame and want to cover it with a 33 Truck grill. Grill is 19" wide. I can fudge the rest. Anything sorta stock that will fit? I have several rads but they are all too wide. Stock motor except for dual carbs, no AC. Gordo
The local farm tractor wrecker is a great source for narrow rads. You will have to change the inlets and outlets for the flatty. Do it yourself or have the local rad shop do the balterations
When I put a 32 comercial grill on my model a in front of a 21 stud flathead I used a 36 car radiator. Grill shell fit beautiful and if I remember correctly I think it even bolted on near the neck without even drilling a single hole. Just a thought. Those radiators have an indent on the underside of the upper tank to accomodate the fan.
That's a 36 radiator with a commercial grill over it. That's also a model a with a bad head gasket haha
Most farm tractors have relatively narrow rads. I would look for one off a tractor of at least 40 H P . The 8N is only about 20 H P and may not have a large enough capacity to cool your flatty. The one I used was narrow enough to fit in a 28/29 model A rad shell. I believe it came off about a 50 H P Ford. I just tool my rad shell to the wreckers and started looking through his supply of rads.
Ok, thanks for the tip. I also have a recored rad from a sbc that is good size wise, just need to report it. Would this be ample? It's a 3 core.
