I was wondering how many members own '56 Fords? Here is mine. '56 Fairlane Town Sedan with a 292 Thunderbird "Y" block.
nice ride. I had a 55 once w/ Vicky trim on it, nosed, decked, shaved...It was a cool fricken car...It too had the 292 Thunderbird "Y" BLock in it
Nice car! You may want to wait until tomorrow at around 5 pm your time and ask the same question again. I'm sure a few guy's out there have your model too. For me, I'm going to bed...
Oh man! I didn't know it was that late. I've been reading the other post and got lost in time. Heh! Lots to learn here.
I love it, but a 292 Y-block T-bird engine in a 56? I been a Ford man all my life and my memory (bad as it is) tells me that the T-bird engine was 292 in 55 only. In 56 & 57 it was a 312. Am I wrong here or did I just learn something new? Either way, I like the car,,,wanna sell it?
I dont own a 56 but have several Y Block vehicles. Also many other Y fans on here. T Bird valve covers were a common swap to impress your friends back then since there was no easy way to externally tell a 292 from 312. These days the casting ID's are online at: http://www.ford-y-block.com/Block identification.htm Even today an ECZ casting can be either
No, I can't sell it. This is a father son build, and my son really likes it. I was looking for a 30 Ford 4dr sedan to rod later though. Anyway, I have done alot of background checking on my car over the past two years and have found everything about it. The engine specifications were for a 1956 Ford 292 V8. Model Designation: V8-M6, Wheel base: 115-1/2, Valve Location: In head, Bore and Stroke: 3.75" x 3.300", Piston displacement, cubic inches: 292, Compression ratio w/overdrive: 8.4, Max brake HP w/overdrive: 202@4600RPM, Max torque lbs. ft. @RPM w/overdrive:289 @ 2600. And so on. I thought when I bought it it might be a 312, but I was wrong, darnit.
I don't have one but Lucky_1974 has a cool convertible. He had a 312 but threw a rod, now its getting an FE...........slim
Here's mine, recently acquired. I got it with a 289/C4/8" update, although it was a 292 originally. My recollection is that, in '55, stick T-Birds were 292s, and automatics were 312s. I don't know how that changed for '56, but while I was shopping for a Victoria every car I saw was an automatic 292 with the T-Bird emblem on the front fender.
Damn Alfster,,I'd give either my first born or my left nut for that 55....by-the-way, neither one is worth a*****,,,LOL
I've owned 5 56 fords the last one had a 360horse 327 and I haven't own a y-block since (not that anythings wrong with them)
Thanks for the compliment and the offer, but I already have a left nut. And I'm too old for first borns.
