A little color and soon it will go back in. Tonight do the shift kit on the trans and then the trans is ready to go as well.
Firewall is finished, a quick prep and I will shoot some color. Get some paint on the frame and suspension parts and the motor goes back in. I look forward to the extra floor space. lol
Well not a lot to report, a little color on the frame. Will order up the color for the firewall this week.
If they measure ok and can be turned then probably for now. If they are junk I may just go ahead and do the conversion now.
Once I drive my car (get the engine back in 2 days...) I'll know if I want to upgrade the steering. I had a '64 with manual steering and '68 Bullit Mustang with the 390 that was manual. No problem except in tight parking spots. The Cavalier rack seems like a good way to go. The frame brackets will be a little bit of work.
A buddy has this conversion in his shoebox and it is very good. I drove that car a few times and am very happy the way it steers/handles so I was certain I would do it on my 56. It wasnt to bad to do, I spent hours staring at it after I had the old steering all out as I wanted to make sure I took everything into consideration before I confirmed the location and started on the brackets.
Yes, just a single stage for the firewall and inners. The body will get a base / clear. In the next few days I will get the motor and trans back in and then it will all come together and look like I have actually done something. lol
Actually there is a good bit of difference in the Chrysler Cool Vanilla & Wimbledon White. The trim on the wagon is the Chrysler color which is a little darker and creamier. HRP The firewall on my Deuce pickup was Wimbledon White. HRP
Your Lucky you got the PWG/XWG cool Vanilla.I ordered a gallon of single stage when I painted my 62 in my avatar and the jerk @ Finishmasters gave me GM White it certainly wasn't cool vanilla.Your car looks good Im also building a 56 Mild Kustom.Check my profile for pics.
As I am using a steering rack, a center steer unit from a Cavalier. The next problem was how to mount the power steering pump. I am using the cavalier pump and had to swap out the pulley to a v-groove pulley and then figure out a way to mount this pump to the Clevelend motor. None of the bracket ***ortment that I had on hand even came close so I decided to fabricate one. Here is a pic of the unfinished bracket while I was trial fitting it.
Any pump should work in theory, at least to my convoluted thinking. Hoses would be an issue, but not a huge one. I also make up anything that I need.
Not a lot of progress to report, just playing with some little little stuff. Here is where I am now, will finish up a few things while the frt end is apart and then get some color on the rad support and inners etc and start to get the frt end sheet metal back in place.........the saga continues.............
Yes for sure will get that done before the sheet metal goes back on. Just have to go to a local shop here and pick up the joints that I need. Good eye.
Hi Strangers! Progress was slow over the winter as other priorities took over but slow and steady wins the race! So a small update, Brakes are finished( all juiced up with a great pedal feel), new fuel tank is in, some wiring up front done (main harness still to go), driveshaft is in, 9" all done (3.50 gears) .... overall most of the mechanical is done. Spring is in the air so soon as I can open up the door I will get back on the body. Stay tuned....
By any chance do you still have the parking lights for original grille? If so are you instead in selling them?
