Just a quickie question, I'm replacing all the window channels on a 1965-66 Belair wagon. Old ones are long since gone. Were the original channels held in place with clips ? If so anyone know where to purchase them and what they look like. Push comes to shove I can probably glue and rivet them in, but prefer to use a factory styled clip if possible, thanks.
I hope this helps. I did a lot of door gl*** window felts (channels) on 50's and early 60's cars back in the auto gl*** daze. I hated all the ****in' around with clips, screws and rivets. I would just use a cartridge of 3M windshield urethane sealant and caulk into the groove of where the felt goes inside. Then install felt and roll up the window to hold in place. Leave the windows rolled up for a day to set. If you're really neat, you won't have a mess with urethane oozing out all over the place. So be careful, otherwise get some rubber gloves to keep those manicured fingers clean.
The clips are made onto the window baileys from the factory vendors. 3 M trim will be good doing like beebing says. That's letting the next guy have a break when he redoes them in 20 years.
Thanks guys, yes I've done the butyl gl*** setting method on 1920's wood structured cars, guess I'll do it again. beebing, I also use the gl*** to form the channel to the correct shape, and yes if you get a drop of the sealant on your hands or gloves it seems like that stuff keeps multiplying and you keep getting more and more black spots everywhere. Thanks for the help.
