Technical Model 40 (1933 - 1934 Ford) Rolling Chassis IDEAS to spark new IDEAS Thread!

I thought it would be cool to see if anyone had any chassis shots of 33/34 fords they've built and maybe car together after... I've been collecting parts to build one down the road. I really like channeled coupes, primarily with deuce shells. but don't care either way... because full fendered cars are equally rad.... I thought it would be cool to start a post. Griepsma car above is from So-Cal which is an icon and everyone here is probably familiar with... @cactus1 modeled his shop wall after this shot!

I have an ok pair of rails that need some repair... I have an early Hemi with 555 heads with a Horne manifold/Spalding ignition mated to a Zephyr Overdrive. 48 ford rear(or stock 34 rear) and a 34 front axle with 48 spindles and hubs.

I guess I was just thinking about bench racing and seeing what others have done while I build this thing in my head... I don't have a 34 rear spring but maybe I just run a later cross member and spring... whatever- you get the idea.

Any neat tricks to do with 34's?
Wheelbase Adjustments?
Complete Chassis Swaps?
Any noteworthy cars to be studied?

I'm in! I have a similar dream as you know! Mine will be a channeled 5w with filled quarter windows with a big stupid 337 Lincoln flathead and front/rear axles/brakes from a '46 zephyr. Bobbed fenders, nerf bars, high goofy headlights and the list goes on! A late 50s early 60s drag strip/street car.

I'm in.I just pulled the 392 out of my 34 project reluctantly, to put in my willys coupe.I then slipped in my 331 cad into the 34 . All seems right in the world.

Always loved that car...but in my day, it was WRONG to copy.
Von somebody attempted to turn my head with desires to 'clone' the famous Anderegg roadster, AMBR 1955.
Obstacles got in the way, and he went in a different direction... some Kookie thing, I recall.

This one always grabbed me. The perfect channeled Model 40.

Tuck, the Griespma car with the hemi as it appeared on the cover of Hot Rod in '56 is the BEST Model 40 ever. Hot DOG! Two REAL traditional Model 40s on one thread??!! On the HAMB???!! Am I dead?? I gotta be dead! This cant be real, I gotta check my pulse...

 

My coupe has early Ford running gear in a stock frame with a '57 Chev 283. It is channeled 6" at the cowl and 3.5" at the rear with no chop. No real tricks on the build just a good heavy channel to get it low.

 

Some day, I would love to build a 33/34 chassis like Bob Gregorie did for Edsel Ford's Model 40 speedster, by flipping the back half to make the rear axle underslung, then build my own version with a '35 grille (like the Miller-Ford Indy cars)

Before rear fenders and hubcaps. Most fun I have had in an old Ford.

Here's mine, in early early '14. Shortened 5" and no rear horns to accommodate the sectioned body.

Tim did you shorten the wheelbase 5"? Just curious because there is a big difference between deuce and 33/4 wheel base- 106" Deuce and 112" Model 40 and I was curious what the wheelbase was on Greispma's coupe... I feel like it looks more like a deuce wheelbase.

I don't really know, its been in my photo files for years.

There's a few tricks that are subtle but work nice.
Flat Model A front crossmember moved forward about 2".
That mod requires a shorter radiator because it now sets on top of the crossmember. The radiator stays in the same place related to the firewall.
Really Gets the front ride height down and extends the wheel base, looks better on no fender cars.

A '35-40 rear crossmember flattened a little bit with a '40 front spring.
That mod lets you get everything rear end related inside or within the frame rails and drop it a bit more to where a C notch is effective to get it lower yet.

Racking the rear frame rail tails up is another trick to get them lower without*****canning all the interior cabin room.

Another trick is to pie cut 2x the frame rail and move them up under the hood lines The frame rails also should come in to be under the hood line. That eliminates the inner fenders and****ociated bumps or goofy reworks. The front horns usually need to go too.
Works extremely well on channeled cars but don't Mix the crossmember swap and this one.

this is one of the baddest looking fifties hot rods I have ever seen. The upper shock mounts look like aftermarket '39-'41 tube shock mounts chromed and mounted 180 degrees, check out the shackle/lower shock mounts, 7" King Bee 100-101's. The grill shell and insert are killer.

 

My '34, the b&w is as originally built, the chassis, and right now. Flattened '49 rear crossmember (thanks Miller's Garage!), flattened '34 front, rails C notched front and rear, reversed eye springs, Wilson Welding front brakes and Buick drums. Nothing new but it all works. Edit: it's a 40 rear crossmember. Fat fingers...
