Hello and thanks for taking time to read this. Has anyone experience with adding locks, drivers door, and particularly to the cargo doors on a KB Panel Truck?

First we would have to know what a KB panel truck was. Sorry but I have never heard of one in my 70 years.

Looked it up and it's pretty well obvious that I am not literate in International Harvester parlance.
I'd think that even in the late 40's those trucks would come with door locks of some sort.
Otherwise I'd be figuring out what I could adapt and how I could adapt it. Maybe locks off a double door van out of the 80's or so on the back They should be pretty simple and reasonably available in the parts yards.

  3. If it helps to know, the '41-'49 K series International truck door latch mechanisms are the same as '38-'47 Ford trucks.

the locks are made by Briggs and Stratton the lock will have a square shaft that plugs into the locking part just below the door handle . the lock is held in by a set screw. what year is your truck?

I would have thought it would have came with locks on the back and the p*** side, most vehicles at that time only had a lock on the p*** door and for the drivers door you might have to reverse engineer a p*** lock ***embly.

1941-1949 k/KB panel trucks used the 1937-1940 d series body's from the doors back, on those the door lock is in the p***enger side door handle, find another ps door handle have it rekeyed and swap it for your none keyed DS handled/

Thanks guys for your replies, I did find that IH Scout door locks with the cylinder internal worked fine with some minor modification, and here are a couple pics. Intention is to paint it military O.D., as it will be a 4x4, not a rock climber, but, want to take it in dirt and sand out west. O.D. I can paint myself, and touch up if needed.

RuFFDaWG, they are scarce, so here is a little info. The Pre-war versions are very rare, the 1939 is cool looking, in 1940 1/2 IH switched to the body style like mine, they were called the K series, panel trucks and pickups were 1/2 ton, or 3/4 ton, K1 and K2, the big commercial stuff was K3,4,5 etc. 1940 1/2 through 1949 were all the same body's due to the war, in 1947-1949 the K got some added chrome up front and was re-named the KB, still the same body though, in 1950 the body's changed.

    K1/KB1 has 112" wheel base, K2/KB2 has 125".

The addition of fish plates to the side of the frame is a good idea, really a must.. Good progress so far...

I've got the axles out of the rear end getting new bearings, should be back on the road soon, so anytime after it's fixed...

Wayne, I got the locks/handles from travelallparts.com, if your 1938 is like my 1948, the forward doors require modifying the shaft of the lock, just grinding relief, if you have a Panel Truck, the rear door requires making a longer shaft, 5/16th square stock.
