Im in frisco this weekend and made it to the Sacramento autorama great show i will post pics later. I seen a vendor selling a real nice wiring kit by the name Kwik wire has anyone on here ever used there product?if so let me know what you think of it.
I have bought the kit. is this the one with the toggle switch to turn off power built into the fuse panel. If so I have it in my Sedan.. it was a great kit and will buy another for my woodie project. if it is the one that has the really small fuse panel (about the size of a pack of smokes). I bought one of those originally but after looking at it, decided not to use it.. my buddy also bought one and started to install but ended up yanking it out.. just no good quality
I bought two EZ-wire harnesses that are pretty comparable to the quick-wire. It has a small fuse block that takes GM mini-fuses. I think its great and reasonably priced, along with good customer service. But you still need a healthy grasp of overall automotive electronics to make it work. The install manual is a tad vague.
I could be misinformed, but my understanding is EZ wire was started by a former employee of Kwik Wire. You know, make a knock off of the boss's product and undercut the prices. I have used the kwik wire and liked it. It seemed like a qulity product. I have heard mixed reviews of the EZ wire. However, the instructions are a bit vague. If you have never done any wiring ever, or don't have a buddy with a similar car to refer to, then you should pony up for the Ron Francis kit. I bet a 10 year old could follow Ron's instructions.
I used one and I liked it. It was my first full rewire and it went easy. And, they're only 1 hour away, so I was keepin' it local. Cory
kwik wire is uses higher quality wire their wire is oil resistant and resists cracking plus many other quality features. a side by side comparison you can see and feel the differance.
Bought a wiring harness from them back in the early 90's when they first started. Works great no problems with it. the owner is a hell of a nice guy. Back then they were known as EZ Wire. Not sure about how the other company got their name unless he didn't have rights to the name. He's been Kwik Wire for awhile now and is expanding out to other areas of the country. He used to only be in the midwest without a dealership network this started changing about 3 years ago. As far as what someone said about instructions if you have any problem like that call them their customer service was great when I had any questions.
Got one in my 53. Had the fuse panel mounted and all the wires pulled in about an hour. Spent the next day doing hookups. Very good stuff, its all i use.
NEVER and I mean NEVER use " It's a Snap" wires too short - POOR instructions and when you call they tell you they can't sell you any wire so at least you could put connectors to extend the wires. Found out they are made in India (by one of their distributors). I wasted a lot of money and threw it out!
My friend bought the kwik wire kit for his 53 Merc. I installed it, and it was by far the WORST harness ever. The writing rubs off the wires very easily, the directions are horrible, the quality sucks....GARBAGE.
used kwik wire a few monthes agao. loved it and wires were plenty long. too long if you ask meeasy to follow just take you time thats all
I'm in the middle of using one to re-wire my '31 coupe. I'm satisfied with the quality, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired. Going well so far. I'll know better when I finish up next week. I believe the company name is Saint Wire & Cable, and one of it's divisions is Kwik-Wire. Woody
Thanks for the input guys i loved they way it looked and the quality of the wire and the instructions looked great.
Is a Snapt is the one that I did not use nor did my buddy. instructions are so poor The instructions in the Kwik wire kit could use some improvement (they really need to have a first timer go thru the install with them and make corrections/ clarifications as they come up).
that's the point exactly. if you have done it before , it all makes sense..if you haven't you end up scratching your head. i've wired dozens of cars , so it's no big deal to me what drives me nuts are some of the instructions provided with other hot rod type parts , not just wiring kits the problem i believe comes from that instructions are usually written up by the guy who designed it and/or prototype it..an engineer type..and they assume a lot instuctions should be written by a guy who knows NOTHING...struggles through an install , asks a bunch of questions..figures it out , get's it to work...and then HE writes the instructions
Yes they can. It's called customer service and quality control. They could have had you send it back and replaced it with one that didn't have the problem. Then checked out the one you sent back to find what caused the problem
I know this was posted long ago, but I have to add my 2 cents. I bought 2 wiring kits from a known manufacturer and just bought one from Kwik Wire, a 22 circuit top of their line. The instruction booklet is great for even a first time wiring guy, I have read the above comments and maybe this being their 25th year in business the product has evolved to what I believe to be a quality kit. Check them out. Thanks
I too, would like to add my two cents. A lot of vendors get badmouthed, not always desevedly. I have installed a lot of KwikWire harnesses and no problems whatsoever. From talking to them,I feel they would either help,or make it right. I feel they are the best fot the money and have a good product. Sent from my SM-G900P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have one in my Ford, can't say enough about the good instruction book. The steering column plug was a tad cheesy but worked out well. I wound up with a lot of extra parts left over.
My son has one for his truck and I have one for my 49 Buick. Haven't had time to install either one, but the quality looks fine to me. The wires are bundled into groups as to the general area where they go, and each wire is labeled as to where it is connected. I will be installing the one in my Buick soon so we shall find out how good and easy it is..
Update, I installed the Kwik Wire harness in my 49 Buick summer of 2017. Everything worked without a hitch. No problems what so ever. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to rewire a car.
Mine went well and I took my time with it. The instructions were great and I made extra color copies of the wiring diagram so I could write notes on it.
