We got back from the Lonestar Roundup last night. Had a great time!!!

Our trip started off a little rough. JR's (Fatabone) car had some problems. First the coil went bad about an hour from home. The next morning we decided to give it a tune up in the Autozone parking lot. We knew we were in luck when we pulled in and we saw the 36 Pick up sitting there. The owner is Richard Gregory of Roanoke VA. A great guy!! He helped us tune the car up and went home to get us a dwell meter. Did I say Great Guy?!!!

We were off again. Just before 5 in the evening just outside Nashville. Jr picked up a piece of metal in his rear tire giving him a nice flat. While I ran for a tire he called Mikey. Mikey put a post on the HAMB. Just as I was getting a pair of tires we get a call from Earl Schieb offering us help. I already had a pair of tires but he was waiting to help. I'm not going to say how we got a jack and tire iron. I'll just say we cleaned up some junk.:D

The next morning we found a cool little shop off the beaten path that fixed the flat. Jr was having a fit over the tires I got for him. The rears were shorter than the fronts:D

The last problem Jr had was a bolt holding the panhard bar bracket to the rear broke. A local tire drilled the bolt out and we were on our way again.

It took us 2 1/2 days to get to Austin.

Thursday we started out at Hotwheel's shop for a little party. He's got a lot of cool stuff there! The food was good too! Thanks Reggie! Unfortunately I forgot my camera on Thursday.

Then we went to Thirsty Thursday at a Friend of Reggie's. Cool little shop with cool stuff hanging all over the walls.

After that we went to South Austin Speed shop's party. I loved their shop. Neat old building with lots of character. The guys their were great. I wish we would have had time to make it back there on Fri and Sat night.

Friday we went back to Reggie's for the Garage crawl. This is a must do for the Round Up. Jr had to have a little autogragh signing session in the morning.

The first place was a nice small shop nestled in the trees. It was full of 34 Fords. I stared at the roadster for a while. The Riley head on the workbench was a cool sight. The 32 5 window looked perfect sitting out front.

The second stop really got me going. It wasn't what was in the shop, it was the shop itself and the surrounding town that got me excited. The shop was an old parking garage for the hotel next door. Very cool!!! The rest of the buildings in the town were old and oozed with character. It felt like you were stepping back in time. Check out the old Chevrolet dealership!

I've got a lot of pics of cars that have already been posted so I'll just post a few that really got me.

I spent most of the weekend drooling over this 33 roadster. Lots of cool little details! Check out the saftey straps for the suicide doors. The exhaust looked like he used a couple of early Ford driveshafts. See the tapered ends?

I almost overlooked the 32 roadster. The wheels made me look the other way. Then the Kinmont brakes caught my eye and drew me in. The car is an old hot rod that is somewhat well known in Texas. It's got a lot of cool little details. Lots of chrome. Check out the fuel log, headers and chrome above the seat. Neat car.....just needs different wheels!

More cars and a pic of Jr in his film debut. Look out Evel! He was doing a film for a school project. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to pick on Jr.

  9. Clark, glad to hear you guys made it home ok. That's a lotta driving.

Thanks once again for letting me tag along to Reggies party etc. (for the record, it really is comfy riding in the back of your truck on the highway :D ).

Good to meet you and Jr. See you at the Jalopy Showdown (some year).

We had a good time hanging out on Congress Ave with Plowboy ( we were his people:D ) BobK, HRLC, the Dirtys, The Slick50s and many more HAMBers.

Sunday we did the cruise up to the lake and got some cool pictures of our cars. Then spent the rest of the afternoon at Flyrite for their open house. What a great time!

We were sad to leave on Monday morning but we had to make one more stop in Taylor to check the town out more. I'd love to live there!

We ended up buying some signs and a big clock and thermometer from Taylor.

I was right behind you guys (in the green coupe) on Congress at about 3:00pm on Saturday. I took the family to Guero's for late lunch. The tacos al pastor were good but I didn't care for the enchiladas.

Clark, I wasn't at the roundup but have seen some pics of your truck and it's one of my all time favorites. I'm a sucker for the white accents. Kick ass.

It took us 3 days to get home. We didn't have any break downs but we took a lot of two lane roads. Plus we stopped at a few junkyards along the way.

It's a good thing I took my truck. It was full by the time we were done. I couldn't see out the back window we had stuff piled so high.:D We scored a T firewall, a couple of Caddy aircleaners, some 94's, a couple of Nailhead side covers and a bunch more.

One of the other delays was when they landed a helicopter in the middle of the road right in front of us.

It was really cool to meet all of the people we did. Reggie was a great tour guide! Did I say we had fun?!!!

Thanks to every one in Austin!!!!!!!

Dennis..I'm not really a muscle car fan and the building and town had me awe struck, so I couldn't tell you if there was a Cuda there.

    Mootz..Thanks.

El Cab...you should have yelled or something.

Speedaddict...I love your coupe! Was cool meeting you.

Big A ...any time! Get up to the Showdown!

Wow, look at that junk yard! We saw lots too, but it was killing us to not have time to stop. Sean really wanted to hit Sun Records in Memphis, but again, no time. Next trip.

Good to finally meet my "twin" in person! hahaha

Stevie...the grenn changes with the light all the time. Check out this pic rolling down the highway.

I don't want to know how many days to the showdown....I've got a lot of work to do.

Fltblack...just a warning. It takes a long time to get here when you stop at all the junkyards along the way:D

Dirty...I like the roadster! Good meeting you guys. We got lucky getting those spots on Congress sat night.

Django....twins? You're younger and better looking than me. Hope I didn't scare your wife that one night. That glass door makes you feel uncomfortable even though you can't see through it.

Good to finally meet you guys and sorry about the drool on your truck Clark! Fatabone that green is puurrr-fect! Hopefully we will see you at Daytona this year.

Django-kool hanging with you guys before you rocked Trophy's.

  25. Cool post and pics. Thanks for sharing Clark.

  26. Clark, good to see that it was worth the trip for you, JR and the ladies. I'd be hiding my face if you would have driven all that way and hated the visit.
I don't know if I told ya, but I was raised in Taylor. Heck, my Dad is the mayor there...has been for many years. It's a great little town. Now, It's time for me to pay you all a visit......LOOK OUT PA!!!

Reggie...I can't thank you enough for everything!

I could move to Taylor in a heartbeat. So many cool old buildings! We bought the book on the history of the town.

Fltblack is gonna be riding you hard about coming to the Showdown.

The other thing you need to do is go to Bville next year!! Get a crew together from down there and meet us along the road. You've got over a year to plan ......no excuses!
