While not quite Hot Rod corvettes this one needs to be in here LOL. Guessing they were concept cars of some sort. Imagine what they would be worth today.

Loudbang without going into too much depth (I hope) the four cars are not hotrods in the true sense of the word but were styling exercises for the 1954 show car season (NY and LA and others). The white car is of course the standard 54 Corvette. The yellow car with the hardtop was called the coupe and this hardtop was not common on the 54 and 55 Vettes but became an option in 1956. One of the Riddler contenders this year used one of these tops and it was really stunning IMO.

The Corvette nomad was on a standard 53 sedan chassis but of course carried the Corvette 6 cylinder. This car was never produced but in 1955 the Bel Air Nomad was introduced and of course is a classic design then and today.

The fastback was called the Corvair and the original no longer exists but I believe two replicas exist; a ruby red and a sea foam green example. The car made it's debut with the other two show cars at the 54 Motorama in NY in ruby red but when shown at LA the car had been repainted sea foam green.

You have to remember in 54 the Vette was on life support and not many cars were built in 54. In 55 when GM wisely made the decision to put in a V-8 and quit kidding themselves and the public with the sluggish engine and powertrain, it was only then that Corvette as a true sports car was saved (or pick your own term). Harley Earl who leaned more towards looks than performance I am sure had a hand in these three show cars and who knows maybe they helped saved the fate of the Corvette (I am not privy as to how exactly but I am sure someone will tell me how and why).

Here is a picture of the 54 at Autorama with the good looking top (among other goodies) and a picture of the ruby red replica and the sea foam replica of the Corvair. AR17 038.jpg Corvair 2.jpg DSC_04041.jpg

  9. There is a local old guy that has been building a nomad 53 for years, wonder how close to completion he is.

Some cool pics (and video) Loudbang. The picture of Lombardo in Buckshot next to the wagon above, I believe is Pomona in 69 (Winternationals). He ran in G/S in 69 with the Rochester fuel injection. If you look in the cove you can see he spelled out G/stock. In 68 when he ran the dual quad 270hp he only put the letters in the cove. Also it appears to have a winternationals trophy sticker in the windshield. That car thankfully is still around.

As you may know Roger Sinistri was responsible for the low 12 second times for this winning 61. He was the class of the field in F/S in 68 in my estimation.
