Its called thermal barrier coating... the headers will be coated and a heat shield will be fabricated to protect the master.

I remember a gal who drove a blue Chevrolet Station wagon with a 409 and a 4 speed who was at Dover Drag Strip most Sunday's back in the mid 60's and man could shift a 4 speed and she really won most Sunday's with that car.

I always liked the look of fenderwell headers! Tight fit in that engine compartment but looking good!

In the process of reworking my oil pan. I decided to go with a pro stock style pan with a nearly full length sump. I will fabricate an oil control baffle to prevent the oil from climbing up the pan when braking and accelerating. I feel better about ground clearance now.

Is there space under the tube through the oil pan for oil to drain into the sump ?

Yes. Plus a trap door to keep oil in the back near the pickup.

    Very cool.
Big Nova fan here, I especially like the headers, curious as to your reason for making one of the headers' collector a slip fit?

Both headers are welded collectors. Maybe your eyes playing tricks on you

Love this project! All 'Factory', or 'could have been'. A real rodder's daydream, for sure.
I'm a little envious, as my '54 Ford Coupe is getting a bolt-in 406. It 'could have happened', as Ford Special Projects engineers had installed an 'experimental' 332 FE in a '53 Ford, and cruised Woodard Avenue, to 'test it in traffic'...
Wonder what became of that car...
Likewise, imagine being in the 'experimental lab' of Chevrolet back then. Wonder what early ch***is got fitted with the then-new 348?
Bet the 265 saw some earlier ch***is in the lab than the '55 Chev...

Moroso used to have a lot of Chevy II oil pans for small blocks and big blocks with the tube running thru the sump. Looks good!

Might have missed this? Did you TIG or MIG the headers.

I didn't personally weld them but the guy who did used a tig. They look pretty ratty but I figured thats what home made headers would have looked like back in the day right?

I hope we get to meet up at track this year and have a W motor showdown.

  29. Run of the mill 409?? No 409 is run of the mill, EVERY W motor is way cool and very special-even installed in a C80 truck!
