I have a question; the Pastor of my church just bought about a 1948 Cadillac 331 with a Hydra-matic. The engine supposedly run good and can be started as it is. It has a 3-2 setup, even an AC compressor mounted on it. The motor and Trans were pulled out to put something late model in. Any idea what this engine and Trans would sell for? We are trying to raise money through for the church, via a car ministry (Preacher loves on cars, and so do most of the men in the congregation. ) Thanks
Suggest you post pics and details to this thread so we can help you out. Lots of guys on here know their early Cadillacs. A 331 would be '49 or later, and OHV vs Flathead. Take close shots of the intake if it's easy as that can really swing the value if it's a rare one.
I have attached the motor pics in a zip file, because my computer illiterate self can't figure how else to do it.
Sorry, I don't really have an opinion of value; I am not a Cadillac expert by any stretch of the imagination. I'm sure some of the guys will chime in.
I understand, thank you. If I were still interested in and could afford to build my own, this would be a great find.
that is an early 49 with the centerbolt vc.i payed 500 for a complete 51 model with s 2brl.that tri power is prolly worth 500 by itself.so go from there.
If your trying to help out a hot rodder by selling a cool early Cad tri power with a block in unknown condtion (can't really be tested as it is) then you could take offers. That would be cool. Depends on who's looking. If you're trying to maximize your profit, (prosperity gospel style) then your better off breaking it down and putting it on Ebay. The aftermarket aluminum manifolds are really where it's at, Yours is not, its OEM, but ebay sellers do "ask" a lot for the OEM cast irons. Don't know if they necessarily get it, I see the same ones month after month. If those carbs are all correct it's a bonus. Your selling an engine and trans on a pallet. Even if someone claims it's all rebuilt, who's to say there wasn't a catastrophic failure before it was pulled? It's not like a buyer can here and see it run in a car before they fork the $ over. So a buyer may view it as a core Looks like the original 49 Hydramatic. Some restorers might want the core, but most hot rodders will use adapters and attach a manual trans anyway. When you're selling some niche item locally there are a limited number of people within range even interested in the topic. Ebay is like having a swap meet the entire world can attend. You could find a buyer for your toenail cuttings collection (I've heard of this being sold on Ebay successfully). Think about it.
I guess I do have an opinion on price. If the engine was a good runner and you could put it on a tire or a hastily built improvised wooden stand and it ran good with decent oil pressure and little smoke it might be worth upwards of $1000, even more with that carb setup. People really like those Caddy engines these days!
Telephone Clarks Auto Repair in new London Mn 56273 They have a customers car in there and are looking for the set up you show as if memory is correct the one they have is not repairable. The customer has several cars and is always restoring others. I do not have their telephone number with me at this time. Another good source for pricing is the motor on pallet in one of the answers in picture[French Lake Auto Parts,Annandale Mn.]320-286-2560they might want yours,or they will know up to date value of the intake and specialty parts you show on your pictures. They have thier block at $500.00 but it sure does not have the trans and all the goodies. I play with a lot of old cars and prefer old Cadillacs[some of my old H.A.M.B. Sales]I do not sell or evaluate parts.
