I tried the search but maybe i used all the wrong words..anyway,here's the guestion;if I wanted to mate 3-speed OD trans(from 52 customline)with Y-Block ,which bellhousing should I use? Will the******* fit into Y-Block bellhousing?
The '52 trans is a T-86, a light duty piece used behind flatheads, 6 cylinders and y-blocks up to 272 cubic inches. It will likely bolt up but if your engine is a 292 or 312 it won't be happy unless you baby it.
It should fit. I have 2 T86 OD if you want to check input shaft length to verify. That trans should be ok behind a 292 as long as you don't try to win any races. One of the T86's I picked up from a 70 year old hot rodder. He had it behind his 292 for years. He told me that they are fine as long as you drive sensible.
I had my 53 transmission aprt one time and had to use a manual for a 56 to put it back together The only difference I found was the bearings that went on the main shaft on the 53 were needle bearings with a washer on each end to hold them the bearings on a 56 were caged.
