History Other end of the spectrum ~ How quick have you built your ride?

The other thread ask how long and a few remarked on how fast there project came together.

My Deuce pickup was the quickest build from start to finish, ,I started the build of this truck on march 3rd 2007 and drove it out of the shop as a finished ride on sept 4 th 2007. HRP

 

The one in my link below took 20 days.

 

The 27 took two guys 13 months pretty much full time / 40 hr weeks... from fabn the frame to running. Gary

 

Heck, I'm so slow I haven't even answered the other post yet!

 

My avatar took 3 years and almost 10 grand, a lot of scrounging.

 

They are never really finished but my 40 Pontiac coupe was driving in 8 months. Many updates since then. Gary

 

Time or Money never can get the TWO at the SAME time....
Time would be of some help, 2/3 months , but then being dependent on other people to send , find, fabricate , those one off items , cost PLENTY.
I can not remember the FASTEST BUILD... nor the back burner one,
so i'd have to say average is (for me) 18 months.

 

I got my 55 on the road, from a bare shell, in about a month, although it was another year before it looked even sort of finished (and another 13 years before it got shiny paint).

My old 33 pickup took about 3 months to get on the road..not finished but driving. Before and after photos:

...have put together many cars n trucks,...quickest build was four 40 hour weeks,...160 hours but I had everything layin here ready to go,..slowed down some now, current project was started 4 years ago.!

 

I consider finished as being safely and mechanically sound for the road.
Including prepping and painting the frame, undercarriage and engine compartment.
37 coupe. 2-3 months.
34 pickup 2-3 months.
The rest of the work took years.

 

Now the RESTORATION work that I/we/us HAVE done for CUSTOMERS has , mostly been as fast as they were WILLING to pay to meet their QUALITY desires , and their TIMELINE.
Did 2 side by side 409's in just under 2 years.

 

Only a bare original body ( though very very nice) to driving in 12 months all done in house at home . Had a good buddy shakey build the rails . It helped have a stash of old ford parts on hand to raid. Got the engine several years before From Melinda Waldens (Bobby) Mercury.

My 50 ford took about 10 months from delivery to first drive.It will probably never be "finished". My 55 Ford took about 6 months from delivery to first drive.Not nearly as much body work.Ditto on finished.We used to put some stuff together pretty fast when I was a kid but I lived through that and dont want to push my luck!

 

Been working on my coupe for 33 years, still in primer but I drive it everywhere.
