My Edelbrock SBC polished valve covers just arrived. I've always planned to fill the gaps between fins with black paint or powder coat. Whadda say fellas: fill the fins or leave 'em raw? If the answer is to fill the gaps, please give painting tips? Or take to powder coater?

BTW- these go on the car in my avatar.

  3. I did mine in white, matches engine block. I used OneShot paint, it has been on there for 14 years, and still looks great. WIN_20150308_151841.JPG

  4. Well paint is easier removed than powder coat incase you want to change your mind. If you paint them you can just sand off the top of the fins or another trick is to wipe vasoline on the parts you don't want paint to stick to before you paint.

I've never understood questions like this.

Chopped, it's YOUR car, your engine, your...rocker covers..!
Why ask others what color underwear you should wear today ?

Coolbreeze340-where'd ya get those exhaust manifolds? Love 'em!

  15. I have a similar problem.
I like em painted, and raw or polished.
Since my new engine won't be built for some time, I have lots of time to decide.
Do whatever you want, you can always change em.

  16. One Shot enamel work fine for the fin grooves. Red or black are my favorite colors to use in between fins.

I like 'em a variety of ways too. Didn't know which was more "traditional", or whatever. I'm gonna paint em.

Used gloss black Rustoleum Primer+Paint from Walmart. The valve covers came in plastic bags which I used as masking with some masking tape at the edges. Two heavy coats about 1/2-hour apart. Wiped down logo and fins between coats then again after second coat with a T-shirt stretched over my finger with some acetone. Turned out great. We'll see how it holds up.

Gonna add some Tru-rams to make motor favor a Y-block and look a little more 40s than 60s. Gonna have them ceramic-ed in satin black to not steal attention from the valve covers. Only other polish will be scoops on 97s.

What is great about the Fenton manifold over other 3x2 manifolds? The oil fill tube conflicted with the high-rise water pump and was never gonna work. That's why I switched valve covers in the first place-I needed valve covers with breathers that I can add oil thru. This motor looks fresh-shame it's a 112hp 307! Still more power than most stock flatheads or a 4cyl, so it should still have a little pep over "stock."

Please explain how you can powder coat aluminum valve covers, I'd really like to know that works inside the fins only. Bob
