Based on the valve cover breathers and the oil fill arrangement, I would say this engine was meant for stock car usage.

Now I feel that something of mine is worthy of a pic on Mikey's thread. Real GMC 6-71 from the day. Near NOS, machined and ready for drive & manifold. One season with the TR to break her in then boost time.then IMG_20170330_112221100.jpg

  12. TUNING POST. Well I got to play with the AFR gauge today, and after screwing around with the idle circuit , IFRs , transition slots, etc, I about wound up back where I was tuning old school. She idles at 12.5- 12.8, in gear 12.8- 13.2. Restricting the IFRs, she did not like that. I still am getting to far into the transition slots on primary or secondary, one side or the other to get her happy. However according to the gauge it is not as rich at idle as I suspected. I may drill the butterflies, start at .077 and see what the result is. This playing today is on the 750DP blower carb. Ran out of time and gas LOL. I do not think these # are to bad at idle for a blown 406. But could be better?

  13. Mikey, that seems kinda odd (but I'm no tuning expert),. I would have thought dropping it into gear would drag the idle speed down a little and make it richer, but maybe it's not drawing as much fuel due to decreased vacuum?

  14. Yea , I thought it was a little strange too, but every time, the #s went up slightly.

  22. Tuning post. I spent today on the 750DP, some fresh 93 gas. Primary butterflies drilled .095. Got her up temp. and adjusted mixture screws. fuel psi set at 7psi. Throttle response was very good wants warmed up some. Still idles in gear at 13.5 -14.0. After some tweaking of the mixture screws and primary- secondary idle I went out on the road to test. Runs very well. great throttle resp. When I stabbed the go pedal at 50 mph, she lit the tires right away. AFR at a 3/4 pedal is 11.8= 12.5. When I give it 1/2 too 3/4 pedal. its hang the hell on, boost coming up , 8-10 psi. I tried to get the AFR readings leaned out a little more at idle and at throttle, but she just does not seem to like that . Pulled some plugs and they look much better now, light tan even after idle in the drive way . More fresh gas tomorrow and taking her out for a good run, at a undisclosed location, LOL. Even with the AFR #s on the rich side, she is a BEAST! I guess that is just where she is happy AFR wise. Anybody please feel free to comment on these readings, and add some opinions.:D:D

  28. Tuning post. Last sunday we got the 750Dp working great. Made some test hits and the car is a beast. According to the AFR gauge it is on the fat side, however the gauge may not be giving the most accurate readings due to the big ,short pipes. Plugs look very good. Now on to the big boy, the 950 DP.
