Hey all, new to the forum. I've got a '55 Chev big window. And I'm curious to how much room is under that big ol hood I'm just starting the project, but I've got a buddy with a 502ci with 871 blower and dual 950 carbs (no air filter or intake installed yet). This is my first project so I don't have much experience yet. Does anybody know or have a similar build, I'm curious if the hood would fit without cutting it? Has anybody, (or if someone has the time) know the actual measurement? I'm up at work out of province away from home. And said buddy of mine lives a few provinces over Complicating things. Thanks in advance!
My 51 GMC had 11 inches from the top of the air cleaner to the bottom of the hood with a 350 Chevy in the engine compartment. I know that your truck is the next generation but I think that the dimensions are similar.
a truck a long time ago. It's a 59, but everything except the front sheet metal is the same. If you figure out the engine mounts after you get the air cleaners on the truck, etc then you might be able to make it all fit. I don't recommend those ****py foam air cleaners.
I don't know for sure what you want....I have a pair of chrome Moroso round 8" diameter cleaners on my blower motor in my Chevy II. They seem to work ok. They're not short, though.
What about ducting and later model air cleaner (plastic box)? I've never seen this done but it should work? BFC
In addition to the great info given already, you may want to peruse the 67-72 Chevy truck forum (google search for it). They have a section on these trucks you could search and maybe find some pics of trucks with blowers or threads. I would also think engine placement and front ch***is set up would play a part too, especially the locations of the first 2 cross members if the stock ones are used or replaced. Good luck - sounds like a beast. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
