Are the 1928-29 panel trucks very rare?

Here is a list of panels built. This includes several models besides the 79A &
79B.

Hello all, I know I'm digging up an old thread. Question. Does anyone have an idea what a 28 sedan with rear side windows and a single delivery back door be considered or what the proper name would be?

 

I would call it a homemade sedan delivery with windows on the upper sides and a door in the back. AND NO BACK SEAT..

Tampa: A lot of years ago , there was a '28-'29 like that sitting at a fruit stand in Symerna Delaware that my dad and I checked out. That one sure looked like a "factory " build. We always called it a flower car.

the delivery panels and back door panel are from Budd corp in Phily and sent to henry to for the sedan delivery as i have been told

I'm panel truck dreamin'. Juice brakes, 16" wires or steelies, and a proper lowering job does these old trucks wonders.

I've got a friend in Minnesota who has a '29 A Panel truck he'd like to sell me. It's a mostly-restored (in primer) stock as a stove unit that would be perfect for a V8 conversion. I've got an 8BA with dual carbs and a T5 that would be a great fit. I've also got a set of juice brakes and 16" steelies... Not that I need another project, but I'm a sucker for panel trucks!

 

1928 Chevy Panel I had many years ago. Four cylinder, four wheel brakes. Old retired truck mechanic that lived next door to where I was working on it identified it as a Hudson Bay Company delivery truck, body from the doors back was custom built by a local shop that specialized in bodies for commercial vehicles, he had worked on them when they were nearly new. Later work exposed the logo on the rear panels under the green paint. All wood frame covered with sheet metal, formed then nailed on. Trim strips down the side were shaped like later model trim but filled with lead with nails embedded in the lead to mount it to body. Lots of work to rebuild. Had to sell before finishing due to loosing space to work on it.

 

In the book Faces of Ford- The Windsor Years - it shows 9 what they call 1928 commercial model A’s. To me they look like sedan deliveries. They have wire wheels and spare tires on the driver’s side. These are original Ford photos, the back panel shows Windsor Gas Co. No pictures due to copyright.

 

I own one rear door and a bit of corner post from a '29 panel. Nothing else though.

Last fall my brother and I watched a '29 panel sell at auction for not too much ($3,150). But it was mostly disassembled and would need some wood replacement, as well as a couple patch panels.

 

that must have been the Slaymaker auction. I was in it to $3000. I already have a 29 sedan delivery, so i backed out. I took home plenty other goodies from that auction though.

Hi HAMB-
So, I picked up a 29 Ford Delivery Panel last summer from a fella who was or is in the Santa Barbara MDL A club.
I'm still trying to figure out what's what on it and hope you all will be able to help.
I have included some images because a picture is worth a thousand words as they say, and a lot of you guys will know immediately what transmission is in her (39 I think but I do not know), and what kind of motor (53 I believe, don't know if Merc etc) or what rear end that is? it is also a 39? I just don't know enough to say for sure and haven't looked anything up yet, but this is like the best of MDL A's all in one to my uninformed guess). I have replaced the bad head gasket, but I haven't done the other side yet. It runs FREGGIN great and the new pipes it came with sound very nice and keeps motivating me (lol) -- anyway, hope the images help to positively identify the various components or are at least neat to look at.

The panel trucks are pretty rare but I have seen some. I really really like the 1 1/2 ton panel trucks. Businesses bought fleets of these but it seems they have all disappeared. I have never seen one
