I stumbled across this site the other day when I was looking for ideas and inspiration for my newest project - a '37 pickup. I've never attemped to chop a top, but I am going to give it a try on the old pickup. I already have found a ton of useful info on the chop process on the site. I wll document the build as best I can, because I think build threads from start to finish are cool to follow. I have a number of cars that I have built over the years - '52 olds, '55 chevy, and a '64 impala. You can definently see my progression of skills over the years from car to car. I always do everything myself, which means I usually screw things up a couple of times before I get it right. I took the last year off from hotrods to build a chopper. The main thing that I learned from that experience is how much I love hot rods! I look forward to meeting some fellow houston hambers. I will post some pics when I get a chance. -drew
Here's a pic of my '52. As with most of my projects, it is "mostly" finished. I never had time or desire to paint the bottom half of the car, but the look of black primer on the body against a shiny top has kind of grown on me.
The '52 is cool, it wouldn't hurt to get rid of the rims and tires you currently have on there. Do you have any pics. of the chopper? thanks -eddie
eddie - I agree that the olds would look much better with new wheels and tires. When I built it six year ago I was broke, so I traded some fabrication work to a buddy of mine for the wheels and tires. After I finish the pickup, the cragars will be replaced.
eddie - I forgot to attach pictures of my chopper. I planned on building the frame, but ended up buying one from WCC so I would not have any trouble getting a title for it. I made almost everything from scratch - including the wheels and gas tank. Like most of my projects, the gas tank and fenders are still in primer and will hopefully get painted someday.
Welcome from Wisconsin.I used to have a 37 chev truck too.I had to sell it when I got my 69 z/28.I couldn't keep both and the camaro was close to mint.Build up pics would be awsome.
