Anyone know where I can find a complete rear drum kit for a '57 Ford 9" with small bearings? I've checked all the best known race car parts suppliers and they only have sets for the late big bearing axles.

    Thanks y'all!

Scotty, I just went through this with my '57 Ford 9" and have replaced all parts with new, except the adjusters.

I bought all the parts at A-Line in Austin, I will get the part numbers tonight when I get home or tomorrow and post them for you (and everyone else).

Are your drums 11x2? Your other alternative could be Currie, but don't call them unless you've measured the backing plate bolt pattern; they need that or they won't help you.

Thanks Mike! I will take a look at Currie, too. I forgot them. I have all my dimensions and want to replace the backing plates, too. I'm glad to hear that A-Line is a good source. Was it cost effective?

    Scotty,
It was cheap cheap. I did not replace backing plates and I had good drums, so the h/w, cylinders were short money, plus 10 bucks to get the drums turned.

If you're doing a total r/r, then with the bolt pattern in hand you can get a complete kit from Currie for around 300 bucks I think, or go with a complete Ford set from a year that's readily available. This is an excellent post from Deuce Roadster:

Speedway has a full kit with powder coated backing plates for $295. They offer new or old style 9" setups. That is what I plan to get for mine.

    Cool. Keep it coming.

I will probably have to dig up backing plates and swing by A-Line.

Currie can hook me up with backing plates and all for around $300 but, availability depends on what cores they get.

I saw the Speedway kits, but both are for the big bearing axles, 3.15". I have 2.83" bearings.

These are the part numbers I used to rebuild the brakes on my 1957 Ford 9" all bought at A-Line (Federated) Auto Parts on Rutland Drive in Austin

    Shoes: Raybestos BS55
    Combi-kit: Raybestos H7102
    Wheel Cylinder ***y: Raybestos WC17508 and WC17507
    Hold-down parts: Raybestos H1338-2

I used the original backing plates. My original drums are 11" x 2" and were in good shape.

Thanks Mike! You've been a great help. I should be able to get the correct backing plates from Currie and will source everything else form A-line.
